AOTD for 6/23/13 - USAF Remote Tracking Station

Featured Replies

Today we have another AOTD submitted by Air1. A tracking station above Dillingham. Wonder how many of us have flown past this one and not even given it a thought?

Thanks, Steve.

Enjoy.

Thank you.

Hi Folks

Had a little trouble launching my search for this one.

YMMV,
as it may have been a server issue,
but just in case............

For the quick how-to fix, skip to BOTTOM LINE below

Each time I -
- Clicked Menu - Activities - Aerocache Hunt -
- Selected the AOTD title area - USAF Remote Tracking Station
That Aerocache's details were correctly populated in the RH area.

I then clicked the Start Hunt button below.
The AOTD title area was repopulated with something like - No Aerocache is being tracked.

Eventually after several attempts
I was launched into a flight,
though not to the expected location.

I'd been positioned at Stevens, Anchorage, Alaska.
with the AOTD tracker correctly titled USAF Remote Tracking Station.
Obviously indicating out of range.

I then accessed the map,
clicked Menu - World - Hawaii
the clouds parted.

Map now showed my aircraft positioned at Honolulu Intl.

Pressed M to take me into the flight,
but again found myself back at Stevens, Ak.

Returned to the Map
to find my aircraft displaying at Stevens.

BOTTOM LINE -
After several more attempts,
found that by displaying the Hawaii map
then dragging my aircraft,
it launched the flight correctly at Dillingham,

and displayed the AOTD tracker as in range.

I had the same problem and after trying to get it to work a couple of times, I just went into free flight, took off from Dillingham, and collected the cache.  If you fly near it, the marker will pop up and you can collect it.

I was afraid we were going to have another lengthy issue with MS Flight's website, but it all worked out.

So, if you see the error you can still collect the cache.

Thank you.

I was unable to get an AOTD tracker display, but loading a free flight at Dillingham allowed me to fly to the tracking station and the AOTD displayed as soon as I was in range. It was quicker than some might have been because I knew where it was :)

Isn't there a Dillingham in Alaska also? :LMAO:   Long flight just to collect an Aerocache, if you ask me.

Hey Luis, you should take your show on the road LOL. :p0503: :LMAO: :LMAO:

It worked ok for me. Of course I knew right where to look. The only odd thing is that the starting airport was changed from Wheeler AAF that I had requested to Dillingham. I was looking for a longer flight.

Steve. Why does it appear that your GPS is off in your shots from the cockpit of the delux cub?
