Coolsky DC-9 Post Hype

The Coolsky DC-9 is the most underused purchase I've made, of the last 6 months.

There's nothing really wrong with it, I think it's more just that the mission of flying an aircraft like this just doesn't appeal to me.

Totally my fault (lack of research); but if I had known it did not come with any retro-fitted FMC, I wouldn't have bought it, because flying a retro-fitted, current-day version of the DC-9 was all that really appealed to me, I'll fly a C172 using VOR to VOR all day, but it's not what I personally want to be doing in a DC-9.

To re-iterate; yes, I'm perfectly aware that this plane was flown using VORs only when first launched, but today, there is not a DC-9 flying anywhere in the world that doesn't have some sort of GPS or FMS retrofit ...... and it's the present day DC-9 flying that would appeal to me).

If Espen ever releases a retro-fit FMC for it, I think I'd fly it a ton!

It's a superb product overall, with things like the automatic config system, integrated training, etc, you just have to think to yourself; do I want to fly a DC-9 with no other nav system than VORs and ADFs.

it comes with GPS, it's in the options.

I think LeeL flies it in P3D.

Hey folks,

Similar to my Majestic Dash post, who can share some opinions about the Coolsky DC-9 after the new and shiny has worn off? Both pro and con are appreciated.

Thanks again!

best FSX/P3D payware plane ever made for civilian sims. Even better than PMDG/FlightFactor(XPX) Payware :good:

No it doesn't..... it comes with the option to "follow the default FSX GPS flight plan" .... quite a difference.

Using the default FSX GP500 popup to navigate, was not what I was referring to, and IMHO really cheapens the otherwise superb feature set and presentation of this aircraft.

@ Jcomm - I apologize; In the earlier post, I was confusing you with this user above  /\ /\  who has made various statements on the XPlane section, about how bad FSX is etc etc etc....

Yup

It truly is a wonderful addon, haven't flown anything else since I purchased it.

And there are still DC-9s out there that only navigate by VOR etc still. Deltas didn't/don't have any fms or gps. There's not early space for one.

I imagine there's handheld gps that some operators use as backup but there's still these planes flying today without gps or fms

Excellent feedback, thank you. Question, I see mentions of just VOR to VOR navigation, it there an option for INS? Was INS even used in this bird?

Can you please show me where I bashed FSX.  I bashed fsx trolls coming into xp10 threads bashing xp10.  Get your facts together before pointing fingers.  I use FSX/P3D/ DCS and XP10 :Talk to the Hand:  How can I hate FSX when I spent under $10 000 in Payware for both fs9/fsx in the past 2 years. :P

I'd like to try it but I know I'll not fly it much. In a world of RNAV flying around raw data twiddling VOR knobs with no autothrotte and a primitive autopilot sounds too much like hard work to me. I like to enjoy the view :)

No INS in the real DC9

What is up with their site? Nothing works and only one post on the whole thing?

It is highly accurate and realistic, even down to circuit breakers and their interaction with various systems, it has failures, a nav simulator that makes finding/tuning stations very simple, checklists, situation states, a load manager, and good flight dynamics. Add in the McPhat HD liveries and virtual cockpits, and you get fantastic looks to go with all the functional features. IMO, it is the best overall steam gauge, jet airliner for FSX at the moment.

How is the fps compared to the PMDG 777 or 737 NGX?

Hmm, that's exactly why I like the DC-9.  You actually have to fly it instead of just pushing buttons...It is really qute gratifying once you learn how to complete a full flight, don't mess up the VORs and grease a nice landing.  You really feel like you accomplished something.
