July 13, 201312 yr I just made captain at my VA so I can now fly the 737-800 but for my first trip I picked the run out to PHNL and back I was wondering how much fuel I should carry and what cost index I should use? I know that the NGX has the range to make it but there aren't alot of places to make emergency fuel stops on that route unless the NGX will run off whale oil haha. Thanks David ATP MEL,CFI,CFII,MEI. July 13, 201312 yr Calculated with TOPCAT: PAX: 129+3 CARGO: +/-5900kg FUEL: 20258KG 200 KG TAXI FUEL Limited by TOW. This is about the maximum I can get out of it. You'd still have about 2900kg remaining when arriving in HNL, which I think is legally enough over there, if your alternates are decent enough on the weather side. Also, this would be an ETOPS180 flight. Name available upon request
July 13, 201312 yr I don't see that flight listed, but SJC-HNL had a RAMP fuel of 37658lbs today. Matt Cee

July 13, 201312 yr Author I thought about taking 40000 pounds but I'll have to look at the winds ATP MEL,CFI,CFII,MEI. Type Ratings B-737, ERJ-190,ERJ-170
July 13, 201312 yr I did not take winds into account, this was an ISA example Name available upon request
July 13, 201312 yr My numbers are from an actual ETOPS plan that includes all the special additives. Matt Cee
July 13, 201312 yr There is a very good freeware dispatch sheet on the avsim library, I would take a look at that. Its an excel spreadsheet which is very dynamic and has extensive fuel planning and other flight information. Tom "I just wanna tell you both: good luck. We're all counting on you."

July 14, 201312 yr I was wondering how much fuel I should carry and what cost index I should use? V.route.premium takes the winds aloft into account when calculating estimated fuel needed .I have attached a copy of the results.I would you a cost index of 30. Michael Cubine Michael Cubine
