July 16, 201312 yr Yes Ryan... that's why I don't hesitate to getting a PMDG aircraft and the heavy systems don't bother me... so I can just jump in and fly it for all the eye candy and simply fly. And over a period of time get in depth.... more and more, like layers of a puzzle and not get bored after a few days of eye candy. In fact I flew the PMDG 747 when it first came out ....without learning any part of the system... I simply flew it like I would my Cessna 172. And I would have continued with it, if it were not for the fact, I couldn't simply dial in the ILS Frequency to shoot an ILS approach.. I had to use the FMC to put in the frequency... one by one I started looking into the system. That's what got me to learning the systems one by one. I never get bored with the 747... I believe it was you Ryan who spoon fed me and helped me get started on the 747 (FS9 days). Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
July 16, 201312 yr This topic is more appropriate to the Hangar Chat, so that is where I am moving it.
July 16, 201312 yr The issue I have is with some buyers who never flew an actual aircraft in their life commenting on how "unrealistic" an addon/aircraft is....when it's obvious the writer can't tell p-factor from induced lift or what a Vmca roll is...mainly this tends to happen with turboprops (the most i've seen referred to mjc's q400, realair's dukes and pmdg's jetstream). And don't get me started on the "the screw on the bottom left of the lcd bezel is 1.25 inches too far from the left" crowd... To me...reasonable accuracy is fine...it doesn't have to be über-perfect or ruler measurable... July 16, 201312 yr Manny, we recognize that most people do what you do and that's why we include both options in the tutorials - with the NGX for instance the first tutorial shows you the steps that get you in the air within a few minutes without going through the whole cold and dark startup. The second more advanced tutorial has all of the super in depth stuff that a real crew would do. We certainly don't intend our products to be only for people who want real flight training as Shawn implied they are. I think Shawn was thinking that if the product wasn't being used to the fullest extent, a person would be paying more than they should for the product. Kind of. Fist of all to the gentleman from PMDG, I didn't really mean to imply anything about your product. as I said, even though I'm unlikely to be an NGX customer, I'm glad that you guys make the excellent stuff you do. getting the accolades that you have from this crowd is an achievement that is admirable. If I fly a 737 or 747 I'm most likely to do that in "Big Cessna" mode. now Manny does apparently too with your NGX, and it's cool that you can, but unlike him, I am very much not likely to ever get to the point where I'm doing the whole enchilada, so I'm perfectly happy with my POSKY stuff. I'm not throwing this at your door though, I have no issues with PMDG, just issues with fellow fans who are less than charitable with any product that isn't at your current very good standard of realism.
July 16, 201312 yr Commercial Member Not a problem Shawn - just wanted people to be aware that there is something akin to "big Cessna mode" with our stuff. Well, maybe not quite that simplified but you certainly don't have to get in and do a full blown cold and dark start with all the test functions and everything just to fly a flight. You can have it ready to go with the FMC and everything programmed in just a couple minutes once you have the basic "flow" internalized.
