Hi Guys,

 

Just wondered if you think I'd see any real difference in upgrading my current (1600 x 1200 res) 21" inch monitor to a 27" inch 1920 x 1080 resolution monitor. I know the size difference will play apart but do you think I'd see a visual improvement.

p.s. Just for your info my Graphics cards are perfectly capable of handling the increase in res (2560 x 1600)

A rough calc gives that old monitor a count of about 95 pixels per inch whereas the new one is about 80 pixels per inch ( if I've done it right) so the newer one could possible look worse if this was the only difference.

 

You could always run both.

I purchased the HP 2711x monitor (1920 x 1080) and it's clarity is very nice. Don't know what the pixels @ inch are.

21 to 27 is huge. I went from a 24" to a 27" a couple years ago and loved it.

It's basically how small the pixels are. A 15.6" laptop monitor and a 27" desktop monitor can both have a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels, which means the pixels on the 15.6" have to be smaller or they wouldn't all fit   Larger pixels makes things like aliasing (jagged edges) in games more obvious. It also means that the actual working space available on the desktop won't increase with the larger screen, since icons, text etc. would just get scaled up.

 

I recently upgraded to a 27" @ 1920x1080. You can tell the PPI is pretty low, but it's not a problem for me. FS feels much more immersive with the bigger screen, just don't forget to enable WideViewAspect in FSX.cfg.

Yeah....the 27" screen is very nice for FS, other simulator pgms, graphical and word processing pgms.

 

I'm using EZDOK w/FSX so I didn't enable WideViewAspect in the cfg file. I read you shouldn't do it, so I didn't.

Don't know about EZDOK , but if you're not using any camera add-ons or similar, WideViewAspect gives you a wider field of view and a bit more peripheral vision which is handy.

So I guess the only significant improvement visually,....... would be to opt for a 27" 2560 x 1440 resolution monitor. That way I'd have a bit more control over the AA.

I am also considering going from 24 to 27 inch. I am afraid of the picture getting to pixelated and loss of fps. Would I need 2500x1900 resolution for a screen of that size?

I am using a 30" 2560x1600 display and it's very nice.

I wonder how much fps I will lose going from 1900 to 2500 res using a 660 ti gpu. Any idea?

1080 easier to plug in than old VGA setup twisting knobs to fasten it to the video card . 1080 is middle of the road Nowdays way better than 800x600 era of the 90s.

I went from a 20" @ 1600x900 to a 27" @ 1920x1080 (I still use the 20" as a second monitor). You have to see it to believe it...

 

The moment you plug it in and you see your desktop... You will be AMAZED.

I remember 800x600 and being jealous of those who had Voodoo2's in SLI and could use 1024x768  :lol:

 

Unless you do serious design/graphics work or similar, 1920x1080 is fine for 27".
