Have you checked your scenery.cfg lately?

Featured Replies

Hey, a little tip for everyone:I just purchased some payware sceneries, and installed them. They all come with auto installers. To my horror, I discovered that they had all altered the sequential numbering of scenery layers and there were mistakes and gaps in numbering. I had to go back and manually fix everything one layer at a time...aaarrrggghhh! I know there's probably a program out there that does that automatically. Anyway, back up your scenery cfg before a new auto-installation of scenery.I'm just telling you all, because a badly configured scenery cfg file could cause you problems next time you load FS9. Check those cfg files and make sure they are neat and ordered.Lee

www.fs-traveler.com/cgi-bin/fsscenery.zipJust run it. Enjoy.

I have followed the advice and checked my scenery.cfg. What a mess!Is this utility compatible with FS9?Cheers!Phil

File not found when running it without 2002 installed, making it useless for FS9, which the original poster was asking about.

You have to copy the "Scenery.cfg", and place it in the same folder as "fsscenery.exe".Then run the exe file and adjust the lines it suggest you to fix. Then copy the "Scenery.cfg" back to the FS2004 root folder.Fly safe, Staffan AhlbergSweden/Stockholm/ESSAhttp://www.scandicair.com/images/dc9_banner.jpgMy specs are:Dell Dimension 4600 P4/3.0 Ghz512 Mb DDR333 Dual channel memory128 Mb ATI Radeon 9800 ProCatalyst 4.7DirectX 9.0bW XP Home with SP1E171FPb Flat panel monitor 17"240Gb (2x120) 7200rpm HD

Ah...you are correct. I skimmed the readme and that didn't register. Ok, no more wine tonight.

Lee,You are right, auto-installers make a right balls-up of your scenery.cfg file. It's just another reason for me to hate them with a vengence :-lolA word of warning though, this utlity will renumber all your scenery areas and layers, so if you have moved some, i.e. sometimes when you install a scenery you have to have a landclass or other folder under another, it will change all that too, so you will have to move them in the scenery libraryDan.

I was just about to post this also...if there is a need for a certain area to be underneath another, doing this will screw that up.

You can run the automatic programs, but it doesn't hurt to go through and manually check things yourself. It will keep your sim "happy" if all your cfgs are ordered.Lee

I agree, but it's not wise to blindly change all the layer numbers to the same number as the area number...there might be reason why they are numbered as they are.

The "area number" (The bracketed number) will not! That is the reason they don't match! The "Layer=#" will change and will end up in the correct order in the scnery.cfg file. The area number will go with the new layer number order and will end up not in any sequence. IOW the layer=# is what dictates the order of the scenery files in the scenery.cfg.

FSNavigator is payware, but has a 20-session-trial period. They mention only that after the trial the worldmap will be empty - so maybe the database creator still works - not sure, as I have the payware. Peter

I realize this, calm down man, but what I was trying to say was, as I stated in my earlier post, that if you have for example an airport plus a landclass installed and you decide to change the layer number to have the same number as the area number, if installed correctly before editing, you might end up with an unfortunate result.Edit...this was in response to Pete S' post.

Well, I guess it's all the exclamation points you use. It gives the impression of you being upset, to me atleast. Since we can't see the people we talk to on the internet, we have to be careful with the wording and for example exclamation points.
