Coolsky/Flight1 DC-9 Question

Featured Replies

Hello all, lately i have been in the mood for some old school VOR-VOR airliner flying and have been looking around for a good product to fit the bill. I have always liked the DC9/MD80 series of aircraft and see that coolsky has a dc-9 product. From what i have read, it seems like it is a high detail representation of the DC9. My question before i buy is, if i strive for maximum realism in FSX and fly aircraft such as the NGX and majestic Q400, will i be happy with the coolsky dc9? Is it more study sim, or more entertainment sim? Thank you

Study sim and then some.

Don't think.... do.

The best heavy metal I have in FSX. Definately not for "Children of the Magenta Line".

Oh you'll definitely be happy! It's one of my favourite planes now.

It's just awesome and has so many extras others don't...I sincerely recommend it you will not be disappointed.

It's definitely a study sim

Yes.

A superb rendition of a classic aircraft. Do get it.

Definitely a study sim.  It's right up there with the NGX and Q400....and it's such a beauty.

Lol

Good luck with that, and some additional advice - this terrific add-on can be a bit hard on the FPS counter, but sensible settings regarding AI air traffic, road traffic, and scenery complexity/autogen density will help manage that quite nicely. McPhat has done a very nice series of high-def virtual cockpits (different colors) but again, they can affect FPS. Finally, while the Coolsky folks have done a great job on the engine soundset, Turbine Sound Studios has done a terrific payware sound enhancement featuring the aircraft's JT8D engines. Not mandatory, but for some, a welcome addition.

Enjoy!

I find the TSS ones loud from the cockpit. The DC-9 is a very quiet aircraft at the front

But they do sound good

I to fly the NGX and Q 400, nothing comes close to them to IMO, but the DC9 did not work on my PC so never got into it. I forgot all about it.

I bought the Milviz 732 but found very quickly it was IMO very close in how it works to a standard MS plane. So tonight I remember about the DC9 and reinstall it and now it works. This is on par with the NGX and Q400 it even has things that surpass them.

So for me I now have the perfect vor -vor aircraft, am over the moon I've got it working. It's not talked about much as it really is not for the type of simmer that likes to jump in and go.

It is a study sim and an old school one at that.

Go for it. I know what I will be flying till the 777 comes out

PS having said all that it has option to start it as, cold and dark, before engine start, after engine start, ready for take of, so you can jump in and just fly but ......you do still need to learn it.

It was very bad for me too at first, for example the graphics turning to strange shapes, and I was not at all happy about it.  The plane had a rough start, but they really fixed it up good and I like it now.  I don't think it would win a fight to the death with the NGX, but the NGX would get some bruises.  I really like to see developers make a plane aimed at the 'hardcore' community and then see it through.  I think this plane has the right stuff.  I see that FS++ has praised the airplane.  I will give a shout out to Multi-Crew Experience while I'm here, for this plane, and others.  It makes the experience quite complete.
