August 10, 201312 yr Revelstoke airport (CYRV) in British Columbia is apparently located at the bottom of a chasm in the Columbia River - which makes for tricky landings. Likewise, St Stephan airport (LSTS) situated at the bottom of a canyon in the Swiss Alps. These are just two which I came across by chance. No doubt there are others. Any suggestions?
August 10, 201312 yr Queenstown in NZ (NZQN). Try terminate the instrument approach with the circling visual approach, which forms a "figure-eight" pattern. Makes for some fun flying and mountain dodging. Regards,James White Aerosoft (Airbus X Extended/Twin Otter Extended/PFPX) & Majestic Q400 Beta Team
August 10, 201312 yr Bella Coola CYBD, Its not difficult as such but if you put real weather in you often get a very low ceiling with mountains very close by and there no navaids let alone ILS.
August 10, 201312 yr You might like to check the AVSIIM library ... search for Doherty's Difficult and Dangerous Approaches ... there are literally heaps of them.
August 10, 201312 yr Re Paro.... VQPR here is the freeware link to the scenery http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=142923 I also attach a document showing how a Boeing 737-700 was used to demonstrate the landing technique....although Druk Air eventually went for Airbus ! Peter Peter Schluter

August 10, 201312 yr Castlegar in BC is another one (CYCG). Weather is the issue there. I have been on Air Canada Dash 8s and had to go back to CYVR as CYCG was socked in. Air Canada used to fly 737s there a long time ago. No ILS all visual approaches. Interesting winds as well. Don't blame for my name, my parents were hippies and met in Woodstock
August 11, 201312 yr Author Actually, I suspect that the two airports I mentioned in my orginal post (Revelstoke BC and St Stephan Switzerland) are not as challenging as they seem. It is just that their elevations are not represented correctly in FS9. Lots of interesting responses though - thanks.
