Less Is More : From full 737 home cockpit to dead simple PC + mouse as yoke flying
Interesting...... I have had a similar experience, I built a GA panel, general not specific to any AC. I had two Saitek radio panels, switch panel, autopilot panel, the BIP panel, Throttle prop mix panel. Saitek yoke and pedals. I had a screen in the middle coming from a laptop running gauge software. I ran FSX in outside view across 3 screens. This all sounds good but after a while It got a bit dull, why? because It was always the same panel, no variation with different aircraft. Fiddling with gauge software when it (often) lost contact with FSX. So I junked it and went back to having the Saitek panels on the desk. Then I realised that the autopilot panel was always going to be the same regardless of aircraft so that went. The switch panel? well its nice to have physical switches but again it leads to sameness, so that went. The BIP panel? total waste of money, everything you want show is on the VC anyway. I didnt need two radio stacks so lost one. I now have the 3 screens, yoke, pedals and just one radio panel which makes tuning easy. Other than that yep less is more.

Seeking advice - Carenado?
I second the B200, it is an excellent visual model typical of Carenado. As far as systems go, the VC is almost all functional but I wouldn't say is is system based as such as you can run it with everything up and started with no special requirements. I think Carenado should start offering 'expert' modes.

Help Me Pick a Fun Cargo Plane
The Carenado C208 also has free repaints in FedEx and DHL cargo versions which are nice.

Attend Button
On the Carenado B200 there is a 'coffee' switch. I keep it on but sod all happens.

Did win7 updates break my FSX?
I've reinstalled. I have reached the conclusion that the problem was due to the video driver, although I also think there were possibly other factors: Before I reinstalled I installed the latest video driver from Nvidia. FSX would not start it still had fatal error. Then I reinstalled FSX FSX started, got to the initial screen (so further than before) but the part where the plane rotates was black and pressing 'fly now' resulted in FSX closing down. So I rolled the video driver back. Then FSX worked. The upside is that I have now installed FSX into its own folder rather letting it go into the default X86 folder. For some reason before, it had spread itself out into several different folders. I have applied Bojotes config tweaks and FSX is now running very well, very smooth and good frame rates running over three monitors with TH2go. My system isn't top drawer either: Q6600 (overclocked to 3.2) Nvidia 8800 GT Win7 64bit Moral? update with caution and never ever change your video driver unless you are sure its ok, and never from MS!

PRO ATCX (Pointsoftware) forum site down
I see your point, and yes you are right a forum is not necessarily meant as a direct line to a developer etc. Its just when the input from said is so very low, very much lower than from other 'official' forums. It would be easy for the developer(s) to comment/reassure on some topics say once a week. It is inevitable that people will comment and the line between comment and complaint is sure to be crossed at some point. This would be easy to prevent with some level of input, there is generally too much 'second hand' information which I think is introducing an air of mistrust, and to be fair we have purchased an expensive product based on a certain level of 'trust' ....we are effectively testers for the product, therefore when comments are made many of which coming from very knowledgeable people or requests made for inclusions in future releases it would be nice to hear some response, rather than feeling that these suggestions are just buried. For the record I think that Proatc should become one of the best if not the best add on for FSX. Regards Tim

Did win7 updates break my FSX?
I think that a fresh install is the only option now cos sure as hell if its not perfect and even if I get it working now something else will go wrong. Oh bugger, its just all those forgotten things, the big stuff like payware AC is easy enough. But the one thing I cant remember is where to get that fix for reduciing the halo size for lights (as I use TH2GO) Also I have a superb FREE Grunman Goose which is better than some payware...where was that from? Oh well here we go

Did win7 updates break my FSX?
Yep tried a system restore. I had a backup of the config but even using that still no good. I am confused why FSX will not rebuild its own config! weird that it builds two incomplete ones? Really not wanting to reinstall

Did win7 updates break my FSX?
I'm wondering if it has something to do with my config changes. However FSX should be able to rebuild its config file......but mine is not doing this, which must be the problem but I have no idea what would stop it doing so. I have tried an FSX repair install with no improvement.

Did win7 updates break my FSX?
Ive tried that, FSX starts without the 'fatal error' message but just hangs on the splash screen. In task manager it shows as not responding.

Did win7 updates break my FSX?
For a long time I have had auto updates turned off. Yesterday for no very good reason I decided to install all updates (quite a few) lots of windows security stuff and one for the drivers of my graphics card Nvidia GTX880. Following this FSX is a non starter, I get 'fatal error' message on the splash screen. Now to complicate matters, as always, I had also been doing a lot of config tweaking and had used Bojotes tweaker. I got to the point of deleting the config from FSX to allow it to build another one which I was then going to modify. However FSX would not rebuild it, instead it produced two separate configs, both incomplete. So now close to reinstalling FSX but obviously not really lookig forward to this..

PRO ATCX (Pointsoftware) forum site down
I agree with Rick, if you cant make a reasonable (if robustly worded) comment on a forum dedicated to support of a product regarding the fact that the manufacturers of that product hardly ever give support of their product, then well...... and locking a thread just because it is making such comment is a bit big brother to say the least. Having said that angry comments or insults have no place on a forum.

Better ATC which product
What about ProAtc? true it is still in need of updates......to date it does not interact with AI traffic and still some other bugs but if we take the developers word an update is nearly with us. I have it and it is pretty good and apparently quite true to real world. You can upload voices into it as well. But like I said it does have all us lot Beta testing it  so you pays your money.............. oh and it aint cheap either

Why is it necessary to set HDG/TRK to match the runway?
I don't remember a flight when I was not instructed by ATC to 'fly runway heading' after takeoff, It sure makes those few minutes before directed to fly waypoint easier if you have a bug to follow esp at night and poor vis.

Challenging Airports
Bella Coola CYBD, Its not difficult as such but if you put real weather in you often get a very low ceiling with mountains very close by and there no navaids let alone ILS.

Rather odd tone in the title of this post? I don't need to be warned to not be stupid, and as the author of this (stupid) personal message has been banned he cant read it.

Is J41 rudder operation dependant on start up procedure?
Thanks guys, Ive tried those suggestions. I have: Checked over and over that there are no duplicated control assignments. Loaded a default AC then loaded the J41. Made sure the auto rudder is not ticked. Checked the gust lock. Re-installed the J41. Still if I load the J41 mid flight the rudder works though! So I cannot find any reason for it to not work on the ground. So I am still asking myself if there is a start up point that is causing it? Do the hydraulics have anything to do with this? Regards Tim Hi Tabs, Was typing so missed your post, will try that Although my FSUIPC is not registered so dont know if this affects?

A proposal for PMDG, in case they're not doing it already!
Print your approach plates etc from Navigraph then make yourself (by cutting down a clipboard!)one of those things and stick it on the front of your yoke then clip everything you need on it. Now that's reality for you Its actually a lot more interesting that way if you ask me B) and zero hit on your FR's

Is J41 rudder operation dependant on start up procedure?
What I don't get is that they work with every other AC and work in the J41 if I load it into a mid air flight.

Is J41 rudder operation dependant on start up procedure?
No, my FSUIPC is unregistered. Will it make a difference if they are? Regards Tim
