August 13, 201312 yr Why is Air Hauler so addictive? Anyway, I'm playing at hard difficulty with a base in the French Alps to see the great FTX Global textures and the FSGRW weather engine. Started with the Real Air Legacy because that's my favorite to fly. The problem is it is hardly a cargo plane. So, for my next plane I'd like something larger but still manageable and fun to fly. I'm leaning toward the Carenado Gand Caravan. Any recommendations for it or a similar plane? Good visibility is important, as I do a lot of VFR. A lot of the twins sacrifice some visibility, so I'm thinking a single engine would be better, but I'm used to fast speeds in the Legacy. Good virtual cockpit is a must. It would be fun to step it up to an entry business jet since I don't have any experience flying those, but I doubt I could afford that in Air Hauler.
August 13, 201312 yr In my honest opinion, the Carenado C208B is the best aircraft they ever made, I would heartily recommend that. However, I play Air Hauler occasionally too and I don't think it reads the full C208B capacity for cargo, as I remmber the last time I was playing I sold all of my Caravans and bought (Carenado) C185's instead, as the C185 has an outrageously good cargo capacity (as the smaller of the 2 aircraft) - in Air Hauler at least! ....... and as you'll see in Air Hauler, the C208s cost a fortune!!! ($1.3m) where as the C185s are something of a bargain. Oh by the way, I honestly think the Carenado C185 is their second best aircraft ever made, so you really can't go wrong with those two. If you want something newer from their stable; I just bought their CT206H today, and it's pretty special. Cheers.
August 13, 201312 yr The C208 is great. The C206 is also great. Most Cessna's make great cargo planes. Another great one is the free CLS piper arrow. Ryan L.
August 13, 201312 yr Author Thanks for the input. I forgot about the 185. I actually own the tundra model of that one, so that's a plus.
August 13, 201312 yr The Aerosoft Twin Otter (extended) should also be on your shopping list My lord yes, how did I forget that one, I must have flown 30 hours in it over the weekend! An absolutely beauty - love it. Larger than maybe the OP was looking for, but with the STOL capability, it's a flexible plane.
August 13, 201312 yr Well if you aren't in a hurry the Sibwings AN-2 is awesome. Be sure you are brushed up on NDB navigation I think the F1 PC-12 has a cargo variant, hopefully F1 will make a cargo version for their King Air. On the horizon, the RAZBAM Merlin/Metro series should have a freighter as well. If you are just hauling small freight packages, your typical cabin class single or twin can haul very well too ie Seneca, Baron, Duke, 340, TBM, Saratoga..etc. I would also consider having some fun and turn the A2A B-17 into a cargo hauler B) "The knack of flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." - Douglas Adams Tejon 'TJ' Stanley
August 15, 201312 yr Author Thanks everyone. I think I'll start with the Carenado C208, since I like flying the default Caravan. I'm going to investigate the Twin Otter too.
August 15, 201312 yr The Real Air Duke Piston/Turbine is great too and has some cargo space. Way more cargo space than the Legacy, lol! What did you haul in that, a box of matches? Mark
August 15, 201312 yr Yep, the T-Duke can haul beer...er 'Medicine' just fine. "The knack of flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." - Douglas Adams Tejon 'TJ' Stanley
August 15, 201312 yr For FS9 I use the PMDG B1900C or B1900D For FSX you could check out the PMDG Bae Jetstream 4100 (video link below) FS9 Driver
August 15, 201312 yr I think I'll start with the Carenado C208, since I like flying the default Caravan. I'm going to investigate the Twin Otter too. Can't speak about the Carendo C208, but I never liked the view from the default Caravan. I do highly recommend the new Twin Otter X. It's well rendered and quite a kick to fly just be nominally cautious with the PT-6's and don't over-temp or over-torque them. Slim
August 15, 201312 yr Can't speak about the Carendo C208, but I never liked the view from the default Caravan. No comparison between the default and the Carenado C208. If you haul cargo in Air Hauler, a caravan is a must money maker!
August 15, 201312 yr The Carenado C208 also has free repaints in FedEx and DHL cargo versions which are nice.
