Windows 8, Dreamfleet, Reality XP

Featured Replies

I've been away from my FS9 program for quite a few years.  Since last time, I now have a Win 8 computer.  I installed FS9 on it and it appears ok.  However, I had the Dreamfleet PA28, BE36, and BE58, Piper Meridian along with the Reality XP panels, and I still have the registration codes, etc.    I checked the Dreamfleet web site, and if I'm reading correctly, those aircraft are only for Win XP or less.  Is this correct?  I am not a computer guy at all and need easy installation if those aircraft are possible still.   Anyone know about this issue?   If those aircraft are no longer usable, what would be a good aircraft with smooth, fluid gauges (2D is fine), and maybe some glass.  All I really use FS for is instrument awareness around our local area.  Thanks.

rxp gns430 shipped with df will not run on a 64b os. I had to buy the updated gauge from rxp for my df a36. but the 64b gauge can also be used on fsx so worth the price.

df Dakota never worked on win64.

I went ahead and tried installing.  The BE58, PA28, and BE36 all installed.  However, the BE58 causes FS9 to shut down when selected in aircraft .  The PA28 has pinkish gauges with Reality XP written on them.  The BE36 appears to load and work correctly, but without the GNS functions.  I have the additional Reality XP GNS430 package.  I installed it.  It does not load correctly into any aircraft.  On two of them it does show where the GNS would be, but with a black hole.  I tried loading my Quest Zodiak.  It appears to load correctly but does not show up in FS9 then.  Needless to say, not much luck with these programs and Win 8 so far.

I have not had any problems with freeware or payware planes on my Win8.1 system.  I have had a few instances adding extra paints to a few planes due to the sticky permissions situation in Win8.  In general my Win8 computer with its increased memory and faster processor runs FS9 way better than prior machines.  I lock my fps at 60.  I'm pretty sure that the software is maxed out in capability, so I have added some weather and scenery software to push it over the top.  To me, it is fantastic to have a ten-year-old simulator still giving me thrills today.

be sure panel.cfg is calling the correct gauge and run the rxp config utility.

should look like this

gaugeXX=rxpGNS!GNS430, xx,xx,xx,xx

Thanks.  I'll see if I can try that.

My problem is with the A36. I haven't gotten the RXP gauge to work even with the update in W7 64bit. If you guys can point me to what I'm doing wrong it would be much appreciated. Thx...

Reinstall WinXP 32-bit.  All of your problems should pretty well vanish.

Yeah and have OOM's return, 40% of my memory not accounted for, and slower sim performance. Thanks for the advice...

Reference my beginning posts, I'm at the following.   The Dreamfleet BE36 and BE58 are installed and other than no RXP GPSs functioning, they other wise seem to be working ok. Additionally, I do have the RXP GNS430 package.  However, numerous attempts to install it in those three aircraft have failed and only made things worse.   I'll just just the default GPS500 as needed.  The PA181 installed but has pink gauges with RXP across the face of each. Also,  I did notice this issue.  If I do not set the default C172 to load first, or reload between switching the Dreamfleet aircraft, then when loading one of the Dreamfleet aircraft FS9 shuts down.

So, since all I need are fluid gauges on a typical GA type aircraft, 2D, I guess I'm good to go for now.  As previously mentioned, all I use FS for is flying approaches throughout our local area.  This is very effective for maintaining good IFR/IMC familiarity for the real thing.

If anyone has any suggestions for additional GA type aircraft that have the Dreamfleet/RXP quality gauges and could be used as I do those, I'd appreciate it.  Thanks.  roger

Do you have FS in a Program Files folder? If you, have you set a shortcut to it to a program level security of run as admin? In Win 7 you right click on the shortcut and check properties and ignore the run as admin in that window. That is user level security. Click advanced and then check that run as admin to set the program level. Then OK, Apply, OK to close all.

There are .dlls that are placed by Reality XP in the main FS folder as well as modules. They look for a folder created on your C: drive that has the installation and your license keys. If the Reality gauges and .dlls can't access those then the license check does not work and you get the Reality image within the instrument.

Reality's "unofficial support" from Flight1 is here:

which covers the independent gauges. Some threads which might help:

You're more than welcome.  Glad I could help out.

Ronzie.  Thanks for all the good info.  I do have it set as you mentioned to run as administrator.  I uninstalled the PA181 and its other associated files and re installed.  Same thing though...pink gauges.  I am puzzled that the BE36 and BE58 don't install like that.  They are ok.   Anyhow, I'll keep exploring and working with it.  Thanks again.  roger
