Pause at Failure

Featured Replies

I fly as realistically as possible, but like others have said, I don't have time to sit in front of my PC for a long haul flight. Even with the time compression, I can't 100% guarantee that I can be in front of the PC 100% of the time. Thus, at least returning the sim time to 1x time, instead of continuing with the time compression, is a useful option for people like me. Then again, I could turn off serviced-based failures, but the problem is I don't always know when I can sit at my PC and when I can't so I just leave it on all the time.

Yeah.  That's normally my take, but then I catch a lot of flak for being too realistic and unforgiving.

I just don't understand some of the sentiments, I guess...

"I don't want to fly realistically, but I want to use random failures to keep it interesting."

I understand the desire to not sit in front of a computer for super long flights, but if you want a failure to conveniently happen when you're there, why not just set the failure on a timer for the time period you're there?

I hope that you can continue taking the flak because that keeps us steering the simming towards reality, rather than giving in to a slow creep towards simulated unreality!

Now what have I laid myself open too?

The problem with the whole realism/long flight thing is that any "real" long haul flight is going to have at least 3 flight deck crew, maybe 4, so it is actually more realistic to leave the cockpit for a few hours of shut eye during the cruise if you are the captain, than it is to sit in the left seat for 11 hours.   What we would really need is a (virtual) intelligent relief captain who will monitor the flight, phone you if there's a problem, brief you on what actions have been taken whilst you were returning to the cockpit from the crew rest area and then allow you to deal with the issue.

Maybe a step too far for this release  ?

Or we could have multicrew  B)

Now that would be ideal and even more realistic than running everything as a one man show.

Although, in a 777, to be seriously realistic, you'd probably have a rest break in the crew rest module (if installed), and would be called back in the event something went down... not at the computer for 12 hours :)

THIS.

I remember on a flight to CTS a few months ago I was RO, and had just left for my rest break. Not even 5 minutes after pushing "recline" on my rest seat, the first FA comes to send me back up front... oh well!
