November 10, 200421 yr I posted this question last week and nobody replied. Can someone PLEASE help me or point me in the right direction. I have a very big problem with FS9. None of the option sliders work for any option i.e. Display, Traffic, Realism etc. They are all whited or greyed out and I cannot slide them. This is causing some problems getting some of the scenery to work correctly.I have tried uninstalling it and then re-installing it. Re-installing DirectX and loading the current ATI display drivers and nothing works. Can anyone help or tell me who to call or where to go to maybe get this resolved?I would greatly appreciate it. I have several products I am currently reviewing and I cannot review them properly with this problem.Thank you in advance.Eric BishopAVSIM [email protected]@avsim.com
November 10, 200421 yr yeah, that's weird. Haven't heard of that before. Most of the settings you can change from the .cfg files, I think, but that dosn't explain your problem. I'd want to know what was happening. Sorry I can't help...billg
November 10, 200421 yr Hello Eric,You already uninstalled/reinstalled? Hmmm... That makes your situation a slight bit more difficult :).These are all things that you **could** try. These are just some steps I take in an attempt to solve "off-the-wall" problems such as this... Try running a full virus Scan/Adware scan. You can run a free virus scan from Norton (Symantec) at www.symantec.com (under Security or something, can't remember now.)To do the Adware scan - you'll need ad-aware from lavasoft -- http://www.lavasoftusa.comAfter, Try running Windows Update http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com --- if you have XP, it may be wise to upgrade to SP2 (see the SP2 forum for important steps BEFORE upgrading!)After all of that - make sure there are no "splats" (Yellow ! points) in device manager. If there are any splats - try and fix them with a driver update...Clear out your Cookies and Temporary Internet Files (believe it or not, these can actually casue problems [rarely] but they can!)Also - upgrade FS9 to SP1, that might fix your problem! If none of that works - delete your FS9.cfg file and let it rebuild itself.Dan :) :+IT Support Specialist
November 10, 200421 yr Yes, if I had this problem I would first delete the FS9.cfg and let it rebuild itself. Perhaps when you uninstalled and reinstalled you left the old fs9.cfg intact? If you ever get it fixed, I hope you post what you did to fix it.Jim Young
November 10, 200421 yr I'm not a computer guru, but perhaps you have something set for your graphics hardware that makes FS think that the card doesn't "support" those features? What is your graphics card you chose in the FS options?----------------------------------------------------------------John S. November 10, 200421 yr Just taking a stab at this but I believe it's you graphic card settings which are greying out your options. I think I saw this about a year ago on my system. Not knowing your PC system, Go into you Windows Control panel and to your display options. In your graphic card settings you may have "optioned" out certain selections so in turn FS9 thinks your card is not capable for certian selections... thus the grey out. Also make sure you have the latest and correct drivers for your card.
November 10, 200421 yr Here's a wild guess. What happens if you start FS in "kiosk mode" (kiosk.exe)? Is it possible that the desktop icon you are using points to kiosk.exe rether than fs9.exe? R-
November 10, 200421 yr Start looking at the fs9.cfg Make sure it is not set to read-only. Also rename it and let the file be re-created. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
November 10, 200421 yr If none of the above works, you might get "RegCleaner" and run it. Use only the commands, "Tools, Registry Clean up, and Do them all."It is payware, but V4.2 build 772 is still available free. Many times when uninstalling things, even deleting things like pictures, the link in the registry is left... Even uninstalling them from Software Removal. After months of this, you can have hundreds of "Invalid entries." Though I didnt have this problem, my system was slowing down, and a friend told me about RegCleaner. When run, had 287 invalid entries, was surprising how it speeded my system up. Bob
November 10, 200421 yr Great guys Thank you for getting back to me. I was starting to loose faith in our viewers!!! I have a question (probably a dumb one) Where is the FS9.cfg file? I cannot find it!!I will try your answers and post back any findings. It really is driving me crazy! Thanks,Eric
November 10, 200421 yr Eric,Your FS9.cfg file is in your Documents and Settings folder in your main computer drive. Ensure you can see hidden files and folders files and folders. Once in your Documents and Settings folder, select the Folder Options... of its Tools menu. Then select the View tab, then in the section "Files and Folders" look for "Hidden Files and Folders" and select "Show Hidden Files and Folders." Once you can see hidden files and folders, go into folder Application Data, then folder Microsoft, then folder FS9. For me, the folder structure is:C:Documents and SettingsDavidApplication DataMicrosoftFS9I'm sure you'll solve your problem. November 10, 200421 yr Well I went and made sure it was there and it is. Thanks for the help with finding it. I then went ahead and deleted it after making a backup copy of it so FS9 would make a new one. Well it made a new one but the SAME exact problem is still there. ALL the sliders are not selectable. This is crazy!!! I guess I will try to do the register cleaner. I cannot for the life of me figure out why FS9 will not let me select the settings. If you guys think of anything else please let me know. I REALLY appreciate all the help so far.Eric
November 10, 200421 yr What would happen if I deleted the whole directory in the My Document/ Setting FS9 folder? I do not have any other products loaded yet since I can't get the darn thing to work. Would it mess anything else up? Just curious. Thanks,Eric
