Looinking for a nice Big Prop Type

Featured Replies

Hello again my hobby-gooers. I am looking for a high quality Prop_type airplane such an an ATR 72-500, or similar. I was able to find one for X-Plane which looks really good, but I can't find any type of airplane like that for FSX.

Any pointers will be appreciated.

"Prop type" is awfully vague.

Flight1 has an ATR, but it isn't FSX native.

Virtualcol has low-priced ATRs.

Some idiot did a Do-328, but it doesn't have a proper VC yet. The same idiot did a Cv-580, but it's rather low-poly.

Then there's Calclassic's stuff, but it isn't FSX native.

There are also Jens Kristensen's prop-driven aircraft, but again, they're not FSX native.

A2A has the Stratoliner, which pioneered AccuSim.

Manfred Jahn has several flavors of the DC-3.

...etc...

If you're looking for something close to the ATR 72-500, what about the Dash 8?

Majestic makes a payware version, and PAD has a freeware version.

Oh, right the MJC Dash.

PAD has other prop planes as well. Mu-2, Saab 340, Beech 99, Emb-120, etc... Not FSX native though.

There's also Brett Henderson's Saab 340. It takes artistic license here and there, but it flies great.

He also did a FSX-native Cv-240 and 580.

Thanks a lot guys. I'm considering the Majestic one, but it seems steeply priced. I wonder how good is it graphic and fps wise?

Seriously, there are dozens of threads, information, pictures and opinions on it.    Put "Majestic Q400" into the Search field and you'll get tons of information.

PS..... it's awesome; one of the best ever add-ons for FS, with amazing FPS performance.

Basically you have two choices (for high systems fidelity)

Majestic Q400

PMDG Jetsream 4100

I've got the Jetsream - it's excellent but I hear the Q400 is even better.

Then you're into GA: Flight1 king air w/G1000, Carendo TBM850, even the A2A Civilian Mustang is superb. Etc

You know something, I'm new at all this stuff. But, something I have notice is that this guy (Ryan Butterworth) is always very helpful. He knows his stuff and is there to help, and not to write or express himself with offensive words. I have noticed several well known poster who offend in several different ways and they keep doing it over and over again. I'm surprised that they are not repremanded or worst, strange.

MJC's Q300 and Q400 are both excellent. Also, you have PMDG's Jetstream 41 and PAOB's Fokker 50/60 as well which are both very good. I've read the Flight1 ATR is very good but I don't own it (on my system I don't see a difference if an aircraft is fsx native or not other than the weird effect of the propellers and clouds/scenery - nor is there any performance hit either).

[edit] ohhhh and look up Rick Piper's HS748 too (well look for anything from him or Fraser Mckay for that matter - they're all great!!)

For freeware, the Manfred Jahn's Group Basler BT-67 turboprop or Douglas C-117D recip radial is hard to beat for the money.

Unless, at my age, my mind is really gone...... Ryan is an air traffic controller & private pilot. At least, as I remember.

That's me. Haven't logged any time in far too long though :(
