September 4, 201312 yr Let me just say, wow. This is by far the best jetliner in the market. (duh) I love to hand fly, I do it all the time with the NGX and have gotten a little too used to it. I made my first flight thinking: "I've flown the NGX so many times! This landing will be a walk in the park..." And well.... my first landing was terrible. Floating and bouncing, defying all logic that I was used to in the NGX. Nailed a teeth-rattling -400 fpm... silky smooth!! After feeling rather frustrated at the "bad first impression" of the handling of the beast, It took me about 4-5 practice landings at KMIA's rnw 09 to finally realize just how EASY this plane is to make smooth landings. Instead of those jerky, forceful movements I would make in the NGX to stay on glide path, the T7 needs to be handled with small, but deliberate corrections in order to stick that 500-600 fpm on approach (depending on weight). My landings so far after the 9-10th pattern have been b-e-a-utiful. I find myself now hand flying this thing the whole traffic pattern all the way to roll out. I want to thank the PMDG dev team and flight test team for shaping such wonderful work or art that brings me as close to an airline pilot as possible. Definitely worth the purchase in my opinion no matter what anyone else thinks. David Zambrano, CFII, CPL, IGI I know there's a lot of money in aviation because I put it there.

September 4, 201312 yr Does the elevator seem to have too little authority to you I had my yoke all the way forward and not much was happening and because of that I almost stalled. Thankfully the Pratts spooled up just in time to save my butt. It might have been because of my speed as I was on final and was doing around 135 knots and without airspeed alot of planes run out of elevator authority rather quickly in the realworld. Has PMDG simulated this? ATP MEL,CFI,CFII,MEI. Type Ratings B-737, ERJ-190,ERJ-170

Has PMDG simulated this? Exactly what happened to me on my first landing, only I never spooled the engines. I tried to flare but the elevators couldn't bring the nose quick enough, thus nearly breaking the gear. You have to keep the throttles up until the last 20 or so feet, maintaining that landing vref or above, That way you have plenty of elevator to use. September 4, 201312 yr A big plus one. Handles like a dream. At least in the air. Still learning to taxi this beast. It's no 737. I'm dragging the bogeys in the grass. Apologies to all the airport operators for the busted taxiway lights. Cheers, Bruce Campion-Smith
September 4, 201312 yr Commercial Member Does the elevator seem to have too little authority to you I had my yoke all the way forward and not much was happening and because of that I almost stalled. Let's all sing the TRIM song! When your yoke is getting heavy, and is handling like a Chevy, move your trim up...move your trim up... When you're struggling on short final, and your grip's slick like vinyl, move your trim up...move your trim up... Seriously - I cannot underscore the importance of trim, and remind you that you're flying an aircraft that's several times the mass of what you're probably used to. This is NOT the NGX. Thankfully the Pratts spooled up just in time to save my butt. ...I suggest you take a little time reading the manuals, based on that comment. There will be a lot in there to help you avoid the above. Has PMDG simulated this? They've simulated the aircraft behaving like it should, yes. ...and believe you me, we picked it to DEATH over the past few weeks. I'm dragging the bogeys in the grass. Apologies to all the airport operators for the busted taxiway lights. FCTM - search for "taxi." Indispensable advice in there. I think I mentioned it in one of my videos, but I don't know which one and they're all rather long. Kyle Rodgers
September 4, 201312 yr Ha-ha. Thanks Kyle. Will check out that section of the manual for sure. I think my problem has been that I've been rushing to the runway to get flying. I will work on my ground skills next. Cheers, Bruce Campion-Smith
September 4, 201312 yr Commercial Member I think my problem has been that I've been rushing to the runway to get flying. Most people do - my advantage with the NGX was that it released right before I had to go to work (or, more accurately, the download finished about then), so I threw the manuals on my phone and read them on the Metro to work. Same thing happened when the beta went out. It went out 3 hours before I had to be on a plane to STL. Same thing: manuals on iPad - read on plane and at hotel. Kyle Rodgers
September 4, 201312 yr Yeah. I'm on the road next week and got the iPad ready to load. By the time I'm back hopefully I'll be a pro. Or at least not in the grass. Cheers, Bruce Campion-Smith
September 4, 201312 yr Commercial Member Did Kyle mention yet that this isn't the NGX?? It isn't??? Kyle Rodgers
September 4, 201312 yr Commercial Member I must admit, I was wondering how this thing would hand fly, but I'm not disappointed!! B) B) I tried the two extremes - empty + 15000 lbs of fuel (double de-rate was useless ) and of course, MTOM at brake release (aka: how to make those GE90s look pathetic ). Flap 5 ate the best part of 11000 ft of runway. V2 of 187 kts. Best regards, Robin. Auto-trim was a bit weird at first but got used to it by the second go-around. Best regards, Robin.

September 4, 201312 yr As Kyle has mentioned, it's just a tad heavier than the NG. :-) Not by much though.... Safe & smooth flying, Clarke Ramsey
