Revenge of the low end system!

Featured Replies

I want to thank PMDG for their excellent T7, it works like dream on my low end system, and from what I  gather from the posts in the forum, the guys with super computers were trying to sort out issues, and they guys with low end systems are seeming not have problem at all! KUDOS! The other T7 was very unstable and practically not usable on my system, even with the V/C tweak, but this baby right off  the back worked like a charm! Thank you guys for looking out for the little guy!

Thanks, O. Skinner

Same here with a standard FSB of 2.4GHz Q6600+Gigabyte GTX560Ti+8Gb RAM. That is, until I build the new system. For now, though, it'll do, and like the OP's observations, touch wood, not having any glitches compared to some super systems. Even that other T7 ran smoothly. Which is indeed, great credit to the team at PMDG.

When I read posts like this... there is a little tear pouring down my face.. i.e. I can't get this thing to run smoothly ( my post: http://bit.ly/155SOpR ) on a good machine. Huh..

Use some good FSX tuning guide for modern hardware - Word Not Allowed's guide for DX9 or Avsim guide for DX10. I have 30fps locked even on FSDT CYVR(using Word Not Allowed's gude)

I really sort of tried everything... when you fly over Heathrow (EGLL) (even default scenery) or the London city at about 2000 to 3000ft you can get locked 30fps on your system in Virtual Cockpit? Where is your autogen / scenery slider set?

Thanks!

i can try later, after i land. I can't stop flying this 777 thing :)

Autogen very dense, water High 2X, and rest of sliders on that tab are at maximum to the right

In fact, just before I completely re-installed my OS and FSX onto a new SSD-based system, I copied 2 guides from within this Forum to set up my system as I had long forgotten how to tweak it again since last done in 2010. And sure enough, those guides by I think Paul J cover just about everything you need to make the most out of your system, be it a high-end one, or a lowly one like mine.

Worth a shot, if nothing else.

"Locked"? If by that, you mean you have your fps locked in the display settings, then you need to set that to unlimited right away! It's amazing how much smoother everything is once set to unlimited.

Thanks! I did some more testing and I'm getting somewhat close (see my updated post: http://bit.ly/1adqcvx ) but I still might be doing something wrong.. I'm really interested in your results on your machine..

I do have my internal fsx limiter set to "unlimited" and I'm using Nvidia Inspector as an external limiter to 30fps. See my post: http://bit.ly/1adqcvx

Read his PC specs!

He is using an i7 2700k @4.8Ghz.

Ofcourse he is getting good performance on a tuned system.

Ok, i did that and i have 30fps on ground, up to 5000ft and again on landing. Somtimes it goes down for a second to 28, 26 was the lowest value but no stutters.

Keep that settings, just set TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT back to default - 40

Also maybe you don't need TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=200, but if you can see the difference, keep it. No improvements on my system with that. I don't know if that can have negative effects in combination with other tweaks.

You can also add

[Main]

FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.15

This will improve FPS, default is 33. You can go lower, maybe to 0.10, this must be tested on every system. Don't set this value to 0.

Keep that vsync tweak with internal limiter, this is important with BF=0. This and water to high 2X are important to use with BF=0.

You have to understand that what one defines as excellent or good.....is total crap for someone else.

Some sit there just staring at their fps counter and report fantastic performance with 20-30s bla bla bla while in the mean time, if they would look out the window they would see a blurry...stuttery mess.

There is no way on earth that a core2duo runs PMDG777 + addon airports/AI traffic/rex/itx/gex/etc better than a modern (i7 2600k stuff or better)

Believe me, I have a core2duo sitting here next to my Ivy, both are fully fine tuned and dedicated for FSX only (no other software), there is no comparison.

Now if a person is happy with his performance.....then that is a good thing....and I am sure everybody is happy for him.

However it should not let you believe you can get the same out of a core2duo (or similar) and your i7 2600k.

Of course if your clock is not stable, or your install (Windows/FSX/PMDG) corrupt, then yeah.

Also:

I looked at your other post and not getting 30fps all the time.

My PC cant do 30fps under all conditions either, so that is normal.

fps lower than 20 I do not see however, but dont forget i7 [email protected] here!

(I dont have the 777 yet, but I have the 737NGX)

Rather then all those silly tweaks.....save your current .cfg file and then delete it so that FSX can build a new one.

(TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=300 that should be 40, maybe 80 max 120. unless...if I remember correctly, when you run large photorealistic scenery areas then 300 might work)

Anyway, delete FSX.cfg

Put only those lines in that are in the PMDG manual, as they are required.

HIGHMEMFIX=1

WIDEVIEWASPECT= True (if you use widescreen monitor)

You use 1/2Vsync? Good, lock FSX internally to 30fps....not externally!!

now test.

You can try bufferpools and other things later.

I agree with most above.

Yes FFTF lower helps frame rates.

If you go too low you will see texture loading (ground floor around you) will become blurry.

You have to try and experiment to see how low you can go.

Just try it. you cant hurt anything with it.

My preference would be to try not using bufferpools at all, and leaving water at high 1x.

High x2 is quite a bit harder on your system then 1x.

This is just a matter of opinion though, no point trying to prove what is right or wrong here.

Some swear bufferpools is the way to go, others do not.

So my advice is.....try both and see what works best.

Marek,

Heathrow is one of a couple areas in the FSX default scenery that are just always really bad for performance. Expecting super smoothness there really isn't possible in my experience. Maybe one of the scenery companies will fix the area some day.

There's a couple other places like this in the sim too - Seattle, Atlanta, New York and Chicago come to mind for me too.
