September 14, 201312 yr Hi guys! I've been getting a some stutters over the last few days and decided to delete my .cfg and re-tweak in hopes that it would help. I've always used Word Not Allowed's guide with very good results. I again, followed his guide but now I'm getting decreased frames and the stutters remain. I've been having very good performance in the PMDG T7 (25-30 in VC) but since this all started a few days ago, I'm pretty much stuck in the mid to upper teens. If I run in windowed mode, I lock at 30. Anyone have any advice or a clue as to what in the world is going on? I'm scratching my head on this one. I'm assuming that I'm looking at a clean install if I can't find a fix. Here's my CFG if anyone want's to take a look at it. September 14, 201312 yr I don't ever use Windowed mode, so not sure but if that were my CFG I was getting some stutters, I would try temporarily removing (eg... commenting out, with '//') these :- FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.20 AffinityMask=14 In the past, both of those two have caused stutter when the values weren't exactly optimal... so maybe try removing one at a time and see if it affects your results?
September 14, 201312 yr Author I swap back and forth from full screen to windowed mode to keep from minimizing. When I'm in the sim, I go to full screen. Using the windows key to go to the desktop caused CTD's for my system. I'll remove FFFT and AM, hopefully that'll do the trick. EDIT: No change no matter what values I edit. I've installed/uninstalled a few things over the past few days. I'm thinking that I installed something that my sim doesn't like very much, I just don't have a clue what it is. I guess it is time for that annual cleaning.. Time to uninstall/reinstall FSX and only put back the addons that I'll use. Chase Barnett
September 14, 201312 yr Just working through my re-install as well. I had FSX purring like a kitten, and all of the sudden performance went down the tubes for no discernible reason. Uninstalled the last few add-ons, but that didn't help. I double-checked to make sure that system performance hadn't decreased outside of FSX, and everything was fine. So,starting from scratch and hoping that sorts things out. One piece of advice: once you get the base FSX install all settled in, working good and optimized -- go ahead and back it up. That way, if something goes sideways you don't have to start completely from scratch. Good luck.

I know of this problem, it just took me a while to remember it. Simply hiding my mouse behind my SquawkBox Transponder (which I keep barely visible in the lower right corner) fixes my issue and returns my frames to their respectable 30. I'm not sure if updating video drivers could have done this or not (updated a few days ago). Oh well, it is what it is. If anyone knows of a fix, feel free to throw it in here for me to read. September 14, 201312 yr Moderator Impressive that you can get good performance with ground shadows, airplane shadows and a/c self shadows turned on, all settings very taxing on FSX due to all the extra shader passes that are required to render all that. If I turned all that on I would be getting FPS in the teens. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
September 14, 201312 yr What are your system specs? Is it the Dell OptiPlex 745 (Intel® Core™ 2 Duo 1066MHz FSB Socket T with Dual Core technology XD, EM64T, 2MB and up to 4MB L2 cache, EIST and VT (E6000 series))? Just kidding. :Just Kidding: I know it probably is not your computer system but it is difficult to give responses without knowing something about what you own. :sorry: Windows 7? Windows XP? 64 bit or 32 bit? Do you have one of those new Haswell systems? If you have a modern system with Windows 7 or above, 64 bit, then I suggest setting up your FSX using the following guide - http://www.simforums.com/forums/drivers-nv-inspector-fsxcfg-complete-guide_topic36586.html. It is almost impossible to stop some stuttering even with the most powerful system. You definitely have too many tweaks installed (unless you have an old, old system) and your settings are set way too high. For some reason FSX likes to start in windowed mode first (probably due to timing issues). After that you can switch to fullscreen usually without an problem. Because of that we at SkyPilot will add the startup windowed or fullscreen option to FSXAssist in an upcoming build (FSXAssist Build 1.09). December 12, 201312 yr I've had the problem of fsx minimizing in full screen on it's own. I'll be on a long flight and just cruising along and go somewhere come back and fsx is minimized. I just open task manager and select fsx and tell it to come to front and it's back. I'm running win 7 pro 64. Didn't have this problem with fs9. But at least it didn't crash and have to start over.
