$89.99 for the PMDG 777 and NO 2D Panel? WTF?!?!?

Recommended Posts

I just bought and installed the new 777. I was all excited to hop in and fly it. I started up FSX, loaded up the plane, and away I went. Then when I started keying through the views, I get a big Blank screen when I hit F10. How can you justify not putting a 2D panel in the plane? I have the PMDG 737NGX and IT HAS ONE! So imagine my suprise when I get nothing on the PMDG 777 and it costs $20 MORE! I understand your all about simulation and want people using the VC, but if you're going to charge almost $100 for this you really need to complete the model with the 2D panel. Without it the plane seems CHEAP/INCOMPLETE like some 12 year old made it on his mom's laptop. Come on, please add this little bit of eye candy in an update or something. Don't make me look for an after market panel to fill the void. Thank you in advance for rectifying this :)

Nothing about this simulation seems cheap to me. And they announced awhile ago that there'd be no cheap 2d panel.

Why would you want a 2D haha! Just learn to fly with the VC it's so much easier, better, more realistic. PMDG did give out all sorts of warnings about NO vc, plus a lot of other topics covered this.

Well,

Before I bought my current car I did research all about it: how many ccs, optionals, customer reviews, etc... Now I don't have a single complaint point on it since I did my homework before buying it

It seems that you just bought it without even reading or investigating this forum.... I find it excellent that this plane has only VC.. Have you noticed it running smoother than the MD-11? Or even NGX?

And my opinion about the price: it is a very reasonable one: PMDG has dozen of employees that worked countless hours to develop this beauty... Don't be selfish and respect their job and such a great work that they provided to us.

Best regards,

Gustavo

Yeah, I'm sure a 12 year old could make a STUNNING VC on his/her mom's laptop...

In all seriousness, they clearly stated the 777 would not include a 2D panel. It is outdated at this point to do so in flight simulation, and is completely unnecessary to fly the airplane. There are several ways to get around it:

1. While in the VC, press the "A" key to switch VC views. There are several in the PMDG 777 to get you important views of things like the overhead, center console, etc. This on it's own makes the 2D panels unnecessary.

2. Use EZDok to create a camera profile for it in the VC. I've never used it, but heard great things about it.

3. Use TrackIR, which tracks your head movement to pan the view around.

I myself use TrackIR with the first method of switching views and it works quite well. Also note that the Mic button on the left side of the glare shield (I think that's what it's called) will open up a 2D panel for essential parts of the radio stack so you can easily switch frequencies or Squawk codes there.

Hmmm, well. I guess not everyone followed the production of the product as closely as you guys. Theres no need to be snippy about the request. It just seems to me to be lacking, I for one use the 2d panel when flying almost as much as the vc so it's a great disappointment to see it's not there. I looked on the product page BEFORE buying it and there is NO mention of "no 2D panel" there. So, no, they didn't have it mentioned for those saying they did. See below from the PMDG product page for those saying "they told us".

Product Description

boeing_official_licence.jpgPMDG is proud to offer the PMDG 777-200LR/F. The “Triple Seven” as it is affectionately known is one of the world’s most popular long-range airliners and is the world’s largest twin-engine jet.

Developed with technical input from Boeing and a team of real-life 777 crew and maintenance advisors, the PMDG 777-200LR/F is an extremely sophisticated simulation with nearly every function of its real-life systems modeled in high fidelity. Both the ultra-long range 777-200LR and the 777F freighter variants powered by massive GE90-110B1 engines are included. Numerous airline liveries and options are available for free download including all current operators of both types.

Including and building on all of the groundbreaking features present in our PMDG 737NGX, the PMDG 777-200LR/F is also the first FSX addon to model the Electronic CheckList (ECL) system from the real airplane in exacting detail. Watch as your Windows mouse cursor seamlessly transforms into the onscreen ECL cursor in the cockpit to allow you to interact with the system. This system greatly aids the pilots of the real airplane and now you have it too in FSX with an extremely intuitive interface. The PMDG 777-200LR/F raises the bar once again for immersion and interactivity.

Recommended

OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Processor: Intel Core i5/i7 Sandy Bridge/IvyBridge/Haswell series
RAM: 8GB+
Video Card: 2GB+ latest generation Nvidia. (example: GeForce GTX 760, 770, 780)
Monitor: Widescreen with 16:10 aspect ratio

PMDG *highly* recommends that you choose a 64-bit operating system to avoid problems with FSX running out of memory due to a 32-bit environment.
  • PMDG Operations Center - Includes the new PMDG Operation Center, a stand-alone application which manages livery downloads and installations, livery options settings, documentation, support and much more. The OC also supports the PMDG Jetstream 4100 and PMDG 737NGX. We will be updating this application frequently to add new features and functionality.
  • FMC - The flight management computer (FMC) contains real life 777 FMC features including Required Navigation Performance (RNP), LNAV, extremely accurate VNAV speed and altitude predictions and the full complement of scratchpad warning messages that a real crew could see.
  • Flight Model - Engine and flight modeling that is within 5% of the actual Boeing aircraft performance charts, including single-engine operations.
  • Autopilot - brand new PMDG autopilot created for the 777 that replicates the precise yet smooth feeling you get from the real thing. Created with hours of video taken in the real airplane and actual 777 full flight simulator flying experience.
  • Sounds - A meticulously created soundset that captures the raw power of the GE90-110B1 engines and cockpit environment. Every aspect of the engines is represented here, exactly pitch matched to real life recordings made at every 10% over the engine’s power range. Many cockpit sounds have multiple files behind them that are randomly selected to make each click sound subtly different, just like it does in the real world. All sounds were recorded on the real airplane.
  • RAAS - Fully functional Runway Awareness and Advisory System which calls out runway names and other information.
  • User Interface - We’ve spared no effort in making the PMDG 777-200LR/F easy to use in terms of its user interface. The aircraft’s fuel, payload and a large number of airframe and cockpit options are adjustable on the fly without ever touching the FSX menus or pausing the sim.
  • Exterior Lighting - 3D volumetric exterior lighting that lights up the FS scenery. You can even see the flash from the strobe lights when looking out the cockpit side windows. Improved over what was in the PMDG 737NGX.
  • Liveries - Free downloadable liveries for numerous world airlines, easily installable using the Livery Manager in our new PMDG Operations Center.
  • Documentation - Full documentation that includes the real-life 777 manuals, consisting of the Flight Crew Operating Manuals Vol. 1 & 2, the Flight Crew Training Manual and the Quick Reference Handbook. We’ve also included a 163 page introduction manual specific to the simulation and a 126 page tutorial flight that includes real Jeppesen charts, with a second on the way after release.

Yeah, I'm sure a 12 year old could make a STUNNING VC on his/her mom's laptop...

Yeah, I know using "a" to hop from position to postion makes things a little easier. But, the 2d panel had most things all in one place. I'm not trying to rile up the ######, I truely feel this is a great plane. And think the little bit more with a 2d panel would be the icing on the cake. Like I said, the glaring hole in F10 just seems to make it look unfinished.

Edit: Really "fan boys"  gets bleeped?

Please show me a real plane where you can cause a magical flat surface to pop up in your field of view no matter what direction you look. :P In a real plane, you have to move your head around in order to access all of the switches, buttons, etc. Just think of it as an extra step towards realism.

Also, calling a product cheap and saying that the work quality is equal to that of a 12 year old's is not going to get you noticed by the developers and your request considered. If anything, it will get you ignored.
