September 22, 201312 yr Could someone provide me with some information about this model that is not provided in the Carenado pre-purchase product information? I would like to know what Carenado designed in as the max load in lbs. including fuel, and separately the max capacity of the fuel tanks. Appears from what I read from Scott in another thread that cruise (ground speed) is in mid-teens is in the 190 knot range. Anyone know what the range appears to be at max load in that altitude range. i.e If carrying 6 persons, where I usually estimate 170 lbs average, or 1,020 lbs, plus 250 lbs for luggage and other gear. 1,270 lbs total before fuel. Typical burn per hour there would work for me for that. Then, I see Carenado provides RXP GNS model integration. Is anything provided to integrate the RXP WX500 into the VC, or has anyone tried it? Are there any 3D knobs issues with any of the RXP integration? Thanks in advance! October 6, 201312 yr I don't have her yet but I was wondering how good she sold if none of the 'usual suspects' ^_^ is able to help you on those detailed questions, FP.
October 8, 201312 yr Author Well I had pretty much given up on seeing any replies to the topic. Thanks for noticing. Hope someone else sees and replies to the questions. October 8, 201312 yr Deleted. I realized my reply was for the Jetprop but you were talking about the newer 350P. Sorry, don't have that one. Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. A great landing is when you can reuse it." i9 64GB RAM, GTX-5090
October 8, 201312 yr It's sort of my kind of plane However I'm scared that after the duke v2 and A2A 172 other GA planes will seem a bit sterile.
October 8, 201312 yr FP, Sorry - it's easy for these low-volume forums to get lost in the mix so I didn't see your questions. It is interesting to see how little buzz the last few Carenado offerings have created, isn't it? Haven't been flying this plane much, as shortly after it released the A2A 172 came out and then the RealAir B60 Duke V2. I spent a lot of time trying to get the 172 squared away (still not a big fan, at least yet), and then more time enjoying the heck out of the B60. On top of that, some early problems left me waiting for the SP, which is now available and does seem to correct the few glaring issues from the original. RXP integration allows a 530 and a 430 unit, but no wx500 unit. I'm not aware of any Carenado planes that have directly supported doing that. The plane itself does have wx radar, just like the JetProp. As with the JetProp, I leave it off. I've not noted any particular knob issues. Max gross is 4318 Empty weight is 2970 Max fuel is 60 gal (360 lbs)/side One of the early bugs was it allowed too much fuel which then didn't register on the gauges until it got down to 60 gal. I haven't fully sorted out fuel burn at various altitudes/loads/temps/power settings yet, so I can't help much there other than to say you can figure up to 20+ gal/hour at high cruise power settings in the mid-teens where I find I'd fly this sort of plane the most. As with most FSX planes, I expect you'll see "book" fuel burn only under certain specific configurations. It's the nature of the beast and compromises are necessary. BTW, I mostly like it, particularly since the SP addressed a few issues, but I went in with expectations set at typical Carenado levels. The model is beautiful, there's a nice return to a very useable and capable analog panel with RXP support, and there's the usual Carenado mix of functionality - a fair amount in some areas, but not everything - and the usual Carenado annoyances, like the way the ADF tuning works. The EMIS (Electronic Module Instrument System) is nice for most power/fuel monitoring uses but does seem to have a few glitches I think. Some seemed to think the plane underpowered, but I find it true to the real thing, and a few other problems that were noted earlier with warning lights are actually the way the prototype works. This is not a rocket IRL, but rather a nice looking, pressurized, all weather, 6 passenger PISTON SINGLE. Probably my biggest complaint is that the sound set is nothing special. Again, others seem to find it OK. However I'm scared that after the duke v2 and A2A 172 other GA planes will seem a bit sterile. I think that's a legitimate concern. The plane fills a specific role that I wanted filled, and I've always been a bit of a fan of Piper pistons, so I was going to get this one just about no matter what. I'll fly it occasionally when the situation calls for it and enjoy it. But I don't think it will ever put the same big grin on my face that the new B60 has been doing. It's going to be a while before I can pull myself back out of that plane! Scott
October 8, 201312 yr Well after a few disappointments lately, I said I was not buying Carenado's offerings any more, but the problem is, in real life this plane (in piston variant only - don't like the JetProp one bit) is my all time favourite piston single .......... so I caved in and bought it today..... It's ok, far better IMHO than the ultra bland CT206. It has a nice immersion, decent views, it performs as expected. As Scott said, I too find the sound set unspectacular and nothing close to videos of real PA46-350Ps on YouTube... but I will probably fix that one myself with a replacement  But so far, my admittedly low expectations, have been exceeded ..... a bit. It's usual Carenado; beautiful texturing / modelling, ok'ish FDE, slightly lower than average sounds, and nothing special in the systems department, but all that aside, it's a nice fly. It is not even in the same stratosphere as the Duke B60 2.0, but the aircraft type is one that I prefer vastly in the real world, so I'll still use it. I fly the Duke because it's a RealAir but the type itself (just like the Legacy) is too personally obscure to interest me. With the Carenado PA46-350, it's the opposite; I forgive the usual Carenado quality issues, because it's a Piston Malibu. I'll be posting some pics from it, in the Screenshot Section soon.
October 8, 201312 yr Now that's a complete review, Scott. Regarding the weather radar, I think one might be able to use the mod from bliksimpie for the JetProp. That enabled the CS weather radar. Looks very much like the VC WR gauges are the same. Will check when I finally get her. Next SP or so. ^_^
October 9, 201312 yr Author Hey, hey. Everyone woke up suddenly!! Thanks Scott and Dave. Very helpful. I was looking for an additional piston single with more speed than the A36 and at least equivalent range. That for my virtual charter business. I've been using the 208B for that speed, range, and low operating cost envelope; for its higher pax and load capacity; and for flights where scenery observation is desired. But it is noisy and not at all sexy. This one is definitely more sexy. I love the interior finishing on this new model. Classy for my faux charter business. And at it's passenger capacity, speed, and economy, the cost of operation appears favorable. The A36 can cover some ground at 10,000+ on economical settings and with good tailwinds. I completed a 780 nm flight yesterday in the A36 from Kansas City to Greensboro at 13,000 and flow of around 10 gph on a total of only 48 gal but that with an average 40+ tailwind that allowed that economical setting. But ground speed is lacking and it has no restroom. Flight duration was 4 hours and 30 minutes. Nice to achieve that range and economy under those conditions, but ouch on the flight time. (Women don't like to use those absorbent pea bags I get from Sportys <grin>). One additional question. Does this model have an option to quell 3D knobs? October 9, 201312 yr Author Let me know about the 3D knob option, On the jet prop model the option was in the shift-3 option as a selection. I am interested in putting the RXP GPS units and the WX500 into the panel. October 9, 201312 yr AFAIK, shift-3 does the same thing on the Mirage as it does on the JetProp. Controls for window reflections, instrument reflections and static elements. I don't recall any screen option for taking away 3D knobs, and it doesn't appear to be there on the Mirage either. Sorry. Again, as with the JetProp, there are utilities for adding the RXP GPS's, but any WX500 stuff would be custom. Scott
October 10, 201312 yr Let me know about the 3D knob option, On the jet prop model the option was in the shift-3 option as a selection. I am interested in putting the RXP GPS units and the WX500 into the panel. Hi, Yes, there are optional EXEs for every conceivable configuration of RXP units; Eg.... RXP 430 with Carenado 530, RXP 530 with Carenado 430, RXP 430 and 530, etc, etc. These optional EXEs remove the 3D knobs from the model and give a perfect RXP integration. I have been flying the PA46-350P for 3 days solid now and can't get enough of it. It has overtaken the original Carenado 208B as my favourite ever aircraft from them. It really is very good. Even the sounds which initially are a bit perplexing; after a while you realise that they simulated noise cancelling headphones being on. And it really is a very convincing portrayal of that; eg even other sounds like the ground roll and touchdown are also slight muted to give the headphone effect. The flight model seems perfect to me, and since the SP all systems are working well. I have the RXP 430 in and it is just a delightful, high end, luxury / business piston single. I flew across the North sea from Northern England to Bergen in Norway last night...... at FL250 in a piston single, in pressurized comfort. Had some wind behind me, and a groundspeed of 255kts.... not bad for a piston single. It's the best all round, solid, convincing plane that Carenado have ever released IMHO. It is lightyears better than the PA-46T...... it's just nicer to fly, more immersive, more convincing and a lot more economical!
October 10, 201312 yr It does look like an excellent airplane. Can someone tell me what doesn't work? E.g. if you go through the checklist? Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. A great landing is when you can reuse it." i9 64GB RAM, GTX-5090
