October 13, 201312 yr There are far too many addons and everyone has a different angle on what they like, i am more of a scenery/weather track ir simmer with average plane simulation. I would go for; FTX GLOBAL- don't worry about FS global mesh or any other scenery addon like UTX/GEX which in my opinion is outdated and further FTX products will cover these programs and improve them, FTX global is all you need at the moment. REX weather- these weather textures are a must have, i go for OPUS for a weather engine although its not needed as REX has its own weather engine, this is just an improvement i prefer. Track-ir -an expensive fantastic addon that once used is hard to ignore and has not been iimproved on for years unlike every other FSX addon, Surprisingly although i have tried many payware aircraft (not pmdg737) the only 2 that i still really like is IFLY737 and the lancair legacy, i would also reccomend the feeware FSND updated VC for the FSX 737-800 default ,which has rain effect which is real cool and missing from just about every other payware aircraft. Asking for advice on addons will be a minefield becasue everyone has a different angle to simming, if its real as it gets aircraft then PMDG737 is a clear winner, thats not really me i go for eye candy and a realistic simming world through track ir with average palne simulation becasue i'm still on a learning curve.
October 13, 201312 yr Author I use a HDMI-DVI cable. As it's a purely digital signal no loss of signal quality occurs. The 15-pin thing you refer to sounds like a Scart connection which is analogue and horrible. Keep to digital and things will be fine. You might find this thread useful. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/408832-what-do-you-think-about-a-42-led-tv-as-a-display/ A larger screen does improve things. Imagine reverting back to a 17" display of half a dozen years ago. The trend is always bigger and if you do what I did and take a memory stick to a TV retailer you can see the difference a larger display makes. Some do use 50" displays but I couldn't. And as for lag, I'm not aware of any. FSX isn't exactly a fast moving game. A very interesting thread. I also found a list of tv lag times or something like that and it appears a Toshiba from 2012 at 47in has quite a low lag input at around 18 ms and is about 500 bucks less than the 30in dell monitor. Sounds like a pretty good deal except I would only be about 2.5 ft from the screen so 47 inches and sitting that close might be kinda overwhelming haha. The reason I got FS global 2010 was because on the ORBX site it was suggested to get FTX Global+FS Global Mesh+ the new product they have coming out. Figured might as well get what they showed in the screen shots. Yea I am going to get Rex for weather but I probably won't get a separate program for just a weather engine as I am not sure just how important the weather immersion is going to be for me.

Rex has a build in weather engine. Some people say its not as good as opus or active sky, but they have gone a long way and it's way better than it used to be. I doubt you will see ultra much improvement if you choose not to go with another weather engine. So stick with rex and use it for textures and engine. edit: the only reason why I would go opusfsx for now is the build in camera tool if I would switch over to p3d, since ezdok is fsx only and wont work with p3d :( P.L. I use pmdg 737ngx and pmdg 777. They are advanced simulations, but I would not shy away from them because of that. It doesn't take long to get the basics down and then you can spend months if not years learning about the advanced features while progressing at your own pace. I actually picked up the lancair legacy on sale yesterday, which is a fun little plane and nice for sight seeing.

October 14, 201312 yr For the 737 NGX which FS2crew package should I get? They have multiple ones listed on the site for the 737 and I don't want to get the wrong one. http://www.fs2crew.com/cart/products/FS2Crew%3A-PMDG-737-NGX-Captain%27s-Set.html
October 14, 201312 yr Author http://www.fs2crew.com/cart/products/FS2Crew%3A-PMDG-737-NGX-Captain%27s-Set.html Thank you very much that is the one I will get.
October 14, 201312 yr http://www.fs2crew.com/cart/products/FS2Crew%3A-PMDG-737-NGX-Captain%27s-Set.html Why get this one? Its the more expensive package because it has the ground school (if you want that then this is the right package). The special bundle is cheaper and has the button/voice program that goes into the airplane.

October 18, 201312 yr Author Well the TV I got as a monitor looks great except for it's got a bunch of pixels that are totally messed up so it will be going back but I am glad I found this TV that can work as a monitor. Also how can I check how fast my computer is running? I ordered one OC'd at 4.3 GHZ but in the PC specs area it says it's a 3.6 GHZ processor.
October 18, 201312 yr Moderator What make / model / size did you get? Shame about dead pixels. Thought those were a thing of the past. I see your question about CPU speed has been answered in another thread. Mine is the same. No point running at a faster speed if there's no requirement to do so. Should make your CPU last longer too. Ray (Cheshire, England). It's supposed to have only a 18 ms lag on input from a mouse, keyboard or other accessory which is why I picked that one. I found out monitors have 8 or 9 ms lag so they are pretty close.
October 18, 201312 yr Moderator It's a 47 in Toshiba I see you didn't go for a big one! FSX should be spectacular. Have fun! I don't have a clue about lag time on mine. Yea the TV is awesome however I have found a couple issues with trying to setup EZdok in the PMDG 737. When trying to setup different views it's almost as if the resolution just isn't quite good enough to view the virtual cockpit from a bit of a distance away. Now maybe that is totally normal and the gauges shouldn't be crystal clear which is fine if that's how it's supposed to be. So far I have installed. EZdok ORBX Global FS Global 2010 Rex weather+Overdrive PMDG 737 I have read a tweaking guide and made the necessary adjustments and it seems like I have gained about 8 FPS from the tweaks. Still though when sitting in the PMDG at a busy airport I am getting about 20-23 FPS and it's not really getting close to 30. Is this normal or should I try and tweak more and see if I can get the VC to be at 30? Now when I switch camera views in the cockpit to look at different panels and stuff it goes right to 30 and stays there. Also is there a guide to creating those wing views people use for videos? I haven't been able to find one.
