Hi, when I started using the PMDG NGX almost every flight I've done, a fatal error occurs and FSX crashes it usually happens when I start setting up for descent or when I'm on base or on final. The last time it did this was today and I was about 10 minutes before dissent into Santa Ana KSNA, The two times before that both times I was going into Phoenix The first time going into Phoenix I was about 5 miles from the runway Second time I was on pace for runway 25L getting ready to turn onto Final. And the time before that I was about 10 miles out for Las Vegas. I only had major scenery at KPHX, flightbeam's. The rest were just ordinary AFCADS found on flightsim.com. Other add-ons I use while flying are AS2012, FScaptain, Alaska virtual ACARS and TOPCAT, none of which I was actively using when the fatal errors except UT2 occurred they were just running in the background. I couldn't get FSpassengers to work, so I started using FScaptain. I've only done 7 flights with the PMDG three have been successful and the other 4 have not. one of the flight with FSC was successful, and two without where successful and the other 3 with FSC froze. Oh and I'm using FSX. Any solutions?

 

FSX, only addons, Ultimate traffic 2, Majestic Q-400 PMDG 737NGX with fs2crew voice and Flight beam's KPHX HD, Latin VFR KSAN HD, TOPCAT and FScaptain.

i suspect OOM errors, but download AppCrashView here http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/app_crash_view.html

 

Just run application, find FSX entries and find the latest crashes by date and time. Copy / Paste a couple of reports here

Do you have UIAutomationcore.dll installed into your FSX folder? That could fix some menu related crashes at least...

Until you look at AppCrashView and determine what module is failing and what kind of error it is it will be hard to start pin pointing your problem.   You are probably running out of memory or playing around with the menu bar to much.   Both relatively easy to fix as told above.

As for the out of memory thing I haven't got a message for that, don't think, all that's came up is a "fatal error has occurred fsx is restarting" and I was not messing with the menu bar at the times of the crash's. That's why you need AppCrashView.   There can be 50 things causing that Fatal Error.   When we figure out which module it is originating from we can go from there.

Good.   That file fixed many bugs for me.    Another thing I do to make sure FSX runs the entire flight is to start my flight in Window mode.   Let it load up.   Load all my add-on stuff like VoxATC, FS2Crew and FSPassengersX, let the traffic spawn in at the airport and then I go to full screen for the the entire flight.   When I land and dock at the jetway and shutdown the plan, I put the screen back into Window mode and exit out, that way the next flight will start in Window mode.     Since I started doing that, I have not had a single OOM  crash, no Buffer Overflow crashes, No menu crashes.    I don't know what is going on behind the scenes but it works.    Paul showed me the trick and it works like a charm.

Cool, I do all my flights in window mode, just because it's easier to get to TOPCAT. I'll be sure to let you know if it crashes again.

Well that's a new error message I've not seen.    A quick search regarding that error yield several possibilities ranging from virus/Malware interference to a simply registry cleaning needing to done.     Fly a few more times and see if you get that crash type a few more times.

FSX did not crash but hung up.  If you are a computer expert you can try using the utility provided by FleetThought.  You might even be able to send the results to Nirsoft and have them analyze it for you.  Whenever FSX hangs up, it could be caused by many things.  A program running in the background could suddenly start up and cause FSX to hang until it completes it's mission of looking for what it wants to do.  There are many services on your system that run in the background.  An anti-virus program, for instance, might be going on the Internet and looking for an update so they can provide you the best possible service and let you know immediately that an update is available (some have updates done automatically in the background.... not good if you are running FSX). 

 

I have had several AppHangs and, in my case, it was my weather program updating the weather.   Maybe it had a problem getting to the server to find the latest updates but it happened at the same location every time and 100% of the time when I flew a certain flightplan.  I did not activate my weather program (AS2012) and instead used the default weather program.  Suddenly no AppHangs (I call them freezes too).  With my current system and the final update to AS2012, I have not seen this problem reoccur even if I activate AS2012.

 

Where did your application hang?  While loading FSX or during a flight?  This is important as if it happened during loading of FSX, what's loading when the application hangs is a major clue.

 

AppHangs can also be caused by bad Fsx.cfg tweaks.  This is why a ton of problems are fixed when the fsx.cfg is renamed to Fsx.orig, fsx restarted, and letting the config rebuild.  All the tweaks are gone.  So, that's how to figure out if it's the fsx.cfg tweaks/settings or not.
