Question on new yoke

Featured Replies

I think I,m going to pull the trigger on a PFC Saab yoke . My question is it worth another $150 for hall sensors? Also anyone that has this yoke are you happy with it? I have been flying for years with the x52 pro and recently purchased a saitek Cessna yoke and was disappointed that it was sticky and was hard to land.I,m going to return Cessna yoke. I know its expensive but I love this hobby and willing to invest in it if product is quality.

In a word, yes.

Tom:

If you are "handy" you might consider modifying the Saitek yoke. I replaced the springs in the yoke with rubberbands to reduce the effort and removed the detent. I have yet to replace the pots with hall effect sensors, but, that will happen eventually. None of these mods are difficult and a lot less expensive than the PFC yoke. Besides, the knowledge you will have gained doing the mods will equip you to update the yoke as it wears.

Just a thought.

What are hall effect sensors? What do they add?

to summ it up.. they are better quality than normal potentiometers and there is less chance of them wearing out as there is no touching parts so they are not effected by dirt. They are cheap a cheap component but still cost a little more than potentiometers but there is already budget joysticks that use them like the Thrustmaster T.16000M.

Thanks for the info guys, I just ordered the yoke with hall sensors. Can't wait to try it out.

Which yoke if you don't mind? I am also in the market for a nicer yoke.

Tom, I purchased the cirrus Saab yoke from PFC. It's kinda expensive $870 with hall sensors https://flypfc.com/?/products/yokes/cirrus-saab-yoke/ but the reviews have all been positive. This should be the last one I buy for a long time. Once I save a few more bucks a new throttle will be next.

Exactly what I have been looking at as well. Its probably going to be my x-mas gift to myself.

Can Hall effect sensors be added to a Saitek Yoke? If so is there a guide to do it? Where are they purchased from? Does it make the Saitek Yoke better? I have already done the yoke mod with rubber bands that's a great mod by itself.

I've been using my PFC floor-mounted yoke since 2003. Mechanically they just can't be beat. With the HE sensor you have eliminated the only real aggravation I had along the way--periodic replacement of pots as they wear and start spiking.

Edit: Last year I designed and installed a complete Hall sensor retrofit of my PFC yoke/throttle/pedal setup.

It's a shame PFC hasn't produced an HE throttle quad yet...the smooth response of the Hall Sensors really makes a big difference in allowing fine, jitter-free throttle/prop axis control. The retrofit I did on mine was a fair bit of work, but I haven't regretted doing it once since.

Cheers

Bob have you thought about replacing the pots with hall effect sensors or are they not compatible with your yoke ?

Already done...have HE sensors in every axis in my PFC setup now.
