Can't tell left from right.  I wonder if there may be pilots out there who suffer from this condition?  It's hard to imagine unless you've actually met someone who really can't tell the difference.  I remember years ago driving with my wife's friend and having to give her directions to get somewhere.  I had to say turn 'my side' or turn 'your side'.  Occasionally I lapsed to using left\right and was met with a blank expression.  A bit off topic but did remind me of this particular person.

Haha, are you serious? Someone who has managed to get into the left hand seat of a commercial airliner or any aircraft that cannot tell left from from right? Humans can screw up when under pressure, it really is that simple.

Everybody knows someone who has lapsed and gets left and right mixed up, I have done it a fair few times, never heard of it being as bad as a psychological disorder!

Nobody should be allowed near the controls of any aircraft if they have a problem telling left from right, at least not in controlled airspace!

It actually is, Rob, but I bet no pilot with that burden would make it onto a B747 flightdeck - neither into the right hand nor the left hand seat!

(Sorry for that pun, Tom.)

Just been having a read, it can be a form of Dyslexia (learn something new!) It may sound silly, but I have always thought if you hold your left hand In front of you and stick your thumb out it makes the shape of an L. 'Shirley' that's an easy way to stop yourself getting confused?? At least for English speakers...

I remember being told that you write with your right hand so it's simple to work out which is your left hand........apart from the fact I'm left handed!  So, I write with my left hand and the other one in my right hand.

hehe, I hold a fork & write with my left hand, but play guitar and do everything else right handed! My brain is definitely not wired up correctly :)

In your left brain, nothing is right. In your right brain, nothing is left. Cool brain :LMAO:

That made me think of something.  I have a left handed son who eats right handed i.e. fork in the left hand, knife in the right (same as my left handed wife and I do) and a right handed son who correctly eats right handed.  Yet my pain in the a s s right handed daughter insists on eating left handed!

In this strange world, is it any wonder that 2 747's got within 100 feet of each other :Nail Biting:

Cheers

The media always overreact. Here's another example: During the crew training phase of the VC10 done at Shannon one aircraft put its nose wheel on the grass during a turn (it being substantially aft of the cockpit quite an easy thing to do). The next day The Daily Mail (no surprise there) announced that VC10 had "crashed".

Daily Mail, my favourite comic strip...... In fairness to them, they know exactly what they are doing and excel at it.
