HelloNo need for the guns Tex.;)Yep things are getting pricey but hey whatever the market will bear right? As for me I will be a lot more discriminating in what I buy and make sure it`s right when I give up the plastic. The way things are going the "they do it for love of the hobby" argument holds very little water anymore.Hey it`s buiness you know???Troy

As the complexity and realism of these packages rise, then so will the development time and the cost.Basically it will boil down to supply and demand, if simmers continue to feel that the price justifies the product, then the price points will continue to rise.I just brought the ERJ, $35? maybe a little high, but for me, a UK resident, $35 is a little less than

It is a great aircraft. Very nice model, very nice FDE, and the systems are modeled quite well from what I have seen so far. Bugs? Sure. ALL add-ons have bugs, but the bugs that are present CERTAINLY not show stoppers.True I think that over $50 is quite high for the Misty Fjords add-on but I based my decision on the product description (just not my cup-o-tea) and a comparison to other sceneries. We are talking "close to" 2X as much as the Orcas Island Scenery. Add-ons will go up in price for a while, I would imagine. The strength of the U.S. Dollar is weaker right now and creating FS add-ons certainly hasn't gotten any easier. To call the FT ERJ overpriced would be the same as calling the F1 ATR and RA Spit overpriced, and as much as I hate spending money I just cannot understand your logic. The aircraft add-ons we have now represent the epitomy of fs development, hard work, and true artistic talent. Development will continue and I would guess so will the cost.I guess I chose to vote with my wallet, as you do. However, nowadays, I am MUCH more "shifty-eyed" when it comes to what I buy. I'm so anal retentive that I could find issues that would make people's eyes bleed trying to find...ask Danowat! LOL:)

As already said the cost of development has gone up far faster than the price the customer pays.As a result the profit margin has all but dropped out of the addon market and the creation of quality freeware (I'm not talking AI flightplans, afcad files, and a plethora of paintjobs...) has almost ground to a halt. Not in the least responsible for this is the ever increasing level of complexity and accuracy that customers demand.Where not 2 years ago people would be perfectly happy with an aircraft that came with a panel where half the switches and things were inoperable and the virtual cockpit (if there at all) only a photo, now a developer is slagged mercilessly if there's even one switch (however insignificant, let's say the emergency lights for the cabin aisle) that's not functional and oh my if the switch isn't there at all.Same thing with scenery, flight dynamics, just about anything.Yet at the same time customers complain about the increased development time and price of those new products and as a result sales drop, driving the margins down even further. You can't have it both ways, either expect the same you got 2 years ago for the same price (and that's reducing margins as inflation alone will cause development cost to increase) or be prepared to pay more for more.

TroyI agree there has been a major trend away from what used to be.Freeware as we once used to know it has literally died a death and all the arguments and defence of freeware seems to have vanished from the forums. If you look at all the commercial ware avialable whether its aircraft, terrain mesh, scenery, airports weather utilities? You could spend a small fortune taking MSFS up to a level that is available. That makes you question MSFS itself as really they should be supplying aircraft to the standards offered by some of the developers. They should supply terrain mesh to the standards of that offered payware and the same goes for all the other enhancement addons. The complexity is becoming so great that I will only now buy aircraft which are at the top of the pile or which have features which are groundbreaking.Regarding scenery I will only buy detailed stuff of my real world stomping grounds otherwise you could end up spending hundreds of dollars or Euros :-) on this hobby. It would be interesting to know who has the most expensive MSFS with the most addons out there? or even who has financial problems due to pressing the BUY button to often. In that way I am greatful for my slow internet capability as I think twice about downloading the huge files which seem the norm now.I am also cautious as to the attitude displayed to commercial developers where sometimes the defence which was offered to the old freeware developers seems to have side stepped to these commercial developers as if we should somehow be greatful to them or treat them as some sort of super heros. We forget the price we are paying.Peter

No, you can't have it both ways. And I seriously doubt Avsim will be happy with your advertising...It's against the rules here and shows how cheap you are.Your product looks nice but with an attitude like yours I don't want anything to do with you. There's a specific forum here for commercial advertising, or you can buy advertising space, don't go around spamming.

I've called myself the payware king because I've purchased just about every good payware FS Add on produced in the last few years. But, it seems that will come to an end because the developers have priced themselves right out of what I consider a reasonable price. "try spend year or two for something then sell it just for $10.I belive you will hate that idea :-bang Car and house prices rises too :( "You should ask that question to the freeware designers of our hobby. They spend that time and get only recognition and the enjoyment of being able to give to our community. The AVSIM Staff would be a good place to start. They spend countless hours and $$$ to provide this site that costs us nothing to post and download from. I feel though that some of the developers either want to make some big money quick or have become so bloated with design members and publishing costs that they have to charge that much. Justin Tyme would be a great example of a payware author that puts out an excellent product with minimal cost. He doesn't have a Flight One, VMAX or ABACUS publish his items. I beleive he does it all in house with very little or no "members" with their hands in the virtual cookie jar.

In case you hadn't noticed, the number of freeware developers (not counting repaints, afcad files and AI flightplans which can be created quickly and cheaply) has gone down drastically. The increased complexity combined with more hostile response from users is in large part to blame for this.Maybe had Lee Swordy never created TTools and Afcad some of the people now specialising in that would have created other things but I think the majority would not have created anything at all.

I've made it a habit to wait for AVSIM reviews before purchasing any payware products. Also, I wait at least a month, sometimes more, beyond that so bugs are reported and corrected by the developers. For example, I waited quite a while before purchasing PMDG's 737 6/7/8/900 software (which is awsome BTW). I read the reviews, read the forums a lot,and asked around. I think the price I paid for both sets was reasonable.FS payware is unlike other software. The customer base (the amount of ppl who purchase payware for FS) is relativley small compared to software that is mass produced then sold in stores like BestBuy or Walmart. Smaller customer base makes for higher prices.Mike Brown

Snip!>>I just brought the ERJ, $35? maybe a little high, but for me,>a UK resident, $35 is a little less than

My fs addin payware purchases have actually come pretty much to end (not to address this one in particular) -but for a different reason.I don't think the prices on any of these are out of line. Knowing the amount of time it takes to make such high quality add ins, I think all these folks are justified in charging the prices they do. For the price of a meal for my family-I certainly don't mind spending the same amount for something that will last a long time. Why then am I reluctant to buy fs payware now then? When I buy most of the these add ons thru the internet download process-it is really to the developers benefit-after all-no packaging, manual etc save costs. I do like the instant gratification. However, as an end user-I would hope or expect that:1) When a patch or an upgrade is released I would get an email notifying me with a download site. After all-I usually fill pages of information out for the manufacturer including an email address.I rarely if at all see this happen....2) That when I need to reinstall the program-the process is painless , not terribly time comsuming, and in some cases impossible. When I spend $40-50 for a program I download and get no cdrom or manual-I think that is justified. When the fs patch came out, I ended up having to reinstall everything on a fresh fs. I was surprised to find out many of the add ins of which I had spent motlo $$$$'s had had several patches/upgrades since I had bought them(I was also suprised how well fs runs without some of them installed). Most add ins, I had never gotten a single notice of upgrade or patch from-some I had to hunt pretty deep to find the upgrade/patch. I have so many add ons, it is impossible for me to scour all the sites to find out when the patches are available (I also have a pda that operates much the same-one could spend all day of one's life every day looking for and installing upgrades). To this day-I have only reinstalled about 40% of my fs add ins since the fs patch came out-some are so time consuming to reinstall, old credit card numbers no longer in use, passwords, installing the original file, then patch #1,2 etc., and in some cases the company no longer in business. There are even some companies that want a fee to redownload the file I have already purchased.So-where as I used to buy pretty much everything that came out-now I carefully choose only a few of those that I can't live without. I can't imagine I am the only one that has changed my fs buying habits due to the above reasons. http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg
