Which Harrier package would you recommend

Featured Replies

There are a number of harrier packages out their and would like to know what would people rate as the one to get?

Any responses are appreciated.

Wilco's GR3 is ok, nice exterior model, ok vc but pants HUD, fun to fly tho.

Good fun cold war jet is Just Flights Lightning, FAB for intercepting AI traffic.

Wilco's was beautiful but had several graphics bugs and FDE problems that detracted from it and customer service was nil after release.

Razbam's AV-8B was graphically beautifully modeled but due to FSX's limitations made for a squirrely transition from forward flight to vertical landing. Some equated earlier versions of it to hitting a brick wall. Razbam came out with patches to fix the brick wall effect but people still had extreme pitching issues during transition. Later some users had problems with getting the guns to work.

I'm unsure how Razbam's GR 7/9 package fared with the flight transition problems it had with the AV-8B or if the problem was fixed. If anyone has any input, please let me know.

Sim Skunkworks also released an AV-8. Personally I believe this to be the lowest quality modeling of all 4 packages I've mentioned. I don't have any experience on how it flied because of the poor graphics turned me off.

I found the just flight version good however was put off by the green tinted windscreens. I bought it for exploring ORBX NA but everything is light green!

The RAzbam plane looks much better than the Wilco model but I could never get the Razbam one  to fly properly esp in V/STOL. If I had more hours in the day to devote to it I might have been more successful!

Thanks for the replies, would be good to hear from anyone who has the Sim Skunk Works version.

The SSW Harrier is highly recommended, as are all other SSW models. The flight dynamics are very convincing and have been tested by real world Harrier pilots. The transition from VSTOL to regular flight and vice versa works very well. Additionally, the SSW Harrier, as well as all other SSW models, will benefit from a virtual air combat module that is currently under development.

Thanks for the info, will probably go for the SSW as was looking for an awesome flight model. Actually will probably end up with the Razbam ones as well, you know how it goes! :)

I like the Wilco Harrier myself.

Short vid i made going from hover to forward flight....yeah i'm no ace pilot ;)

Thanks once again for all the replies, in the end I got the SSW Harrier II (along with the F104S) and find it's an absolute blast. The VC I find a nice environment and whilst not PMDG or A2A is totally fine and the aircraft is a high quality in depth simulation.

An AV-8B makes a great bush plane BTW! :)

I can recommend the SSW Harrier also - it's not quite the graphical beauty of the Razbams, but is on par with systems, and much better flight dynamics.

The Wilco is very nice, with a decent, fun to fly FM, but simple systems and much lower graphical presentation.

I read on the SSW support board that they are working on a Harrier update to improve the 'eye candy' for both the exterior and VC. No time-frame commitment.

Hi Hans,

Following up on this - I see the Razbam Harriers are on sale at the moment. Did you make a purchase and can you make any recommendations?

The flight model for the SSW Harrier is superb, looking at your sig I think you'll love it as I think you'll appreciate a great FDE.

I have not got the Razbaam GR7&GR9 which I picked up in the sale but haven't been able to fly anything since the 23rd. Just flight have included both the GR's and AV-8B in their pick and mix so would say go for that as then you'll pick it up for 25% of cost.
