November 10, 201312 yr I have a few questions regarding the systems: It seems I can add fixes to the flightplan but not anywhere else like in a Boeing FMC. Also there is no way of drawing a radial circle or line from the fix like in a Boeing? When climbing or descending in a Boeing it displays a green arc on the ND. But Airbus does not? In a 777 I can select and hold heading but in an Airbus I cannot?
November 10, 201312 yr 1) The Airbus FMGC does not presently have the feature of drawing circles around fixes. At least not that I know of? 2) You need to be in HDG or TRK mode in order to see it 3) Rotate the heading knob to desired heading, PULL it and off you go EASA PPL SEPL + NQ / CB-IR in progress MSFS24 | X-Plane 12
November 10, 201312 yr 2. The equivalent to the Boeing green arc is one of those "hockey sticks". The Airbus green arc is a different concept ("energy circle", it's related to the distance flown until reaching runway elevation). What happened to AVSIM
November 10, 201312 yr Author 1/ In a 777 I usually fix my dest and alt airport with a 50nm circle, its a shame the Airbus MCDU cannot do that? 2/ Its useful to see on a Boeing when Im descending at which waypoint I'll meet the dialed in altitude. EDIT: i think you can with level-off points http://www.efbdesktop.com/flight-instruments/sys-8.2.0.html 3/ When on approach ATC gives me a heading, I dial that in, then press heading hold and dial in the next heading i expect. In an Airbus i dont think you can do that?
November 10, 201312 yr In a Boeing you go to selected heading. Selected heading in an Airbus, as mentioned above, is - pull the hdg knob - dial in the new heading. What happened to AVSIM
November 10, 201312 yr Author In a Boeing you go to selected heading. Selected heading in an Airbus, as mentioned above, is - pull the hdg knob - dial in the new heading. Doesnt that move the plane into that heading right away? How about if I want to dial a heading without heading towards it?
November 10, 201312 yr Commercial Member If you are in managed NAV (the equivelant of LNAV) you just pull for HDG select, the FCU will be dashed in NAV, once you pull it will open to the present heading. As soon as you rotate the aircraft will turn. Rob Prest
November 10, 201312 yr Preselected heading? My bad. Works in Boeing and MD-11, but not in an Airbus ... What happened to AVSIM
November 10, 201312 yr Doesnt that move the plane into that heading right away? How about if I want to dial a heading without heading towards it? Unless I'm mistaken you can't. You can't pre-select QNH either. Also note that the answers to some of these questions will depend on how complexly modelled the add-on you're flying is. John-Alan Pascoe
November 10, 201312 yr Doesnt that move the plane into that heading right away? How about if I want to dial a heading without heading towards it? It was a steep learning curve going from Boeing to AB for me also. The AB MCDU isnt bad its simply Different and the different "Modes" needs to be learned by practice. We have the ability to do so without killing anyone, except our brains. It also speaks to the simplicity of the Boeings MCU. But the AB MCDU is 1/2 the size also! You will get it eventually.
November 10, 201312 yr Commercial Member Am pretty sure on the newer software revisions you can pre select QNH via the MCDU on the Approach page. It will automatically give you the selected QNH once passing the transition altitude. Would have to check my docs for confirmation. Rob Prest
November 10, 201312 yr Tired (read completely knackered) from a 4 sector day flying the real A320 Bus but,Aerosoft may or may not replicate I can't recall ....On the real MCDU LSK1 (top left button), normally brings up Departure Airport rwy, SID page etc, have a look on the top right sid of display it should say FIX INFO...hit RSK1 (top right hand button...it will bring up the fix page ...enter you chosen navaid, waypoint or airport, underneath that you should have a spot to put a radial and underneath that you should have range to build you range circle/radius. hit next page you can do this up to 4 times and if you hit the entered data that will now have an asterisk next to it will make the abeam point an on track waypoint....well that's on the Step 1A FMGC Database anyway ...clever huh!....again very tired ...real flying can be an over regulated drag....night night and good luck!!! Also look for the blue broken arrow on track...that's where it predicts you will reach your selected altitude....Forget boeing, your not flying a Boeing. November 11, 201312 yr Am pretty sure on the newer software revisions you can pre select QNH via the MCDU on the Approach page. It will automatically give you the selected QNH once passing the transition altitude. Would have to check my docs for confirmation. You certainly can enter QNH on the approach page, didn't realise that got sent to the QNH selection knob. John-Alan Pascoe
November 11, 201312 yr Commercial Member On the old machines the QNH input on the Approach page was just for reference, and pressurisation. AM pretty sure on the newer versions it does get sent. Unfortunately I'm away from home for a while, am sure the guys at FSLabs can correct me. Rob Prest
