Time to end Flight Sim Dichotomy?

Perhaps the moderator can look to modifying the title to something else which shows a sensitivity to situation.

Done. Changed to: Time to end Flight Sim Dichotomy?

This term is actually more accurate in any case.

I like the term Dichotomy so much better.  I have rarely used this word (maybe once or twice), but here in this forum for this very topic it is used perfectly. One learns something new everyday.

I shall use this word in few of my upcoming posts ^_^

Thanks n4gix

The term "schizophrenia" doesn't apply in any case.  Multiple Personality Disorder is what people are really thinking of.  I don't even know if psychologists even recognize MPD as a disorder anymore.  But schizophrenia does not have the symptom of complete disassociation with one's own personality and becoming another.   It is more like, as I understand it, intrusive thoughts, feelings, sounds, images that can't be "turned off".  You still are who you are ... there is a whole person there, as with every mental ailment.  Maybe just that some of the instruments on the panel are a bit off.

The only difference between the sane and insane are how much of our insanity we share and understand with each other.  That's why I'm so glad for flight sim forums (although sometimes we should be just a little bit more understanding, as much as whatever fonts we're reading permit).

I was away from my computers and internet for a day or so and wanted to return to the thread and sincerely apologize for any harm my insensitive use of the word schizophrenia may have caused. It was not intentional, but as a health care worker I should have known better. Thanks to the moderator for changing the title.

Dichotomy is a great word, good call Bill!

I am interested to see a few people planning on keeping P3D 1.4 on their system, after getting P3D 2.0; that surprises me. Isn't that like keeping FSX SP1, once you have FSX SP2? ......... Surely P3D 2.0 will be an all round iterative improvement on 1.4? ...... (I'm not challenging, just interested on the views on that one).

I try (politely) to explain to them that I would rather be introduced to a couple of 28 year olds than one 56 year old.

Love that one!!

I considered this because my hardware would be able to run 4 monitors with V1.4 but only 2 with V2.  My second GPU is not DX11.

I have already "douched" my hard drive of 1.4 as that was my thought abt the V2 release. I will keep FSX, as it is running well in both DX9 and 10. I did purge X Plane 10 and AeroFly as well. I do not see anything on the horizon for either sims to make me want to stay current with those. I would rather pursue V2 with both time and money and fall back to FSX and all the great addons  that I have accrued.

As for the 28 year olds, it would be pure folly right now for me and them also. Skip

I'd forgotten that I still have XP10 on my system.  Yet another bit of hard drive space I can reclaim....

Never understood the problem with multiple sims and installations...

For me it is my own obsessive nature... I get stressed if my P3D and FSX installations aren't up to date and equal in every way possible.  So for every product it's a double install, double the storage, double the configuring.. etc.  I figure I could fly twice as much and fiddle half as much if I had it all in one install.

Never understood the problem with multiple sims and installations... I'm gonna enjoy FS2004, FSX, P3D1 and P3D2 - all on the same computer.

It's because many flight simmers seem to be OCD (including myself) with this issue, largely brought on by our experience with FSX where everything had to be just right at all times.
