December 10, 201312 yr Yeah yeah, the starving children etc. In fact I do give to lots of charities. I even gave a goat a few years ago!! Truth is I enjoy playing around with the software. I enjoy the tweaking and the search for the BEST performance you can get. I like being "present from the beginning" of P3D. I have had a lot of fun with it, and don't regret my purchase at all. It's an adventure. But it IS an adventure at this point. If you don't have the cash AND/OR you don't like playing around with stuff, it might not be right for you. I am lucky to be in a positive place for both of those. Being older has at least a few advantages... - Bill Magann

December 10, 201312 yr I think that at this point, tweaking has become so ingrained that many would feel bereft if they couldn't fiddle under the hood. Even if there was no earthly need to! We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically. December 10, 201312 yr LOL Devon. Make_Everything_Great=1 "Ya, thats the ticket, that fixed that"...But it really didnt do a thing. Well we know from experience that pretty much the first thing people do is shove all sliders to the right..... Then just as likely as not, complain. In the wider world, programs have preset suggestions for certain types of systems, IE Modest, Average, Power user, etc........... If a user goes past those and gets a problem, then its on them. December 10, 201312 yr Author Yes, a better CPU and GPU will probably be needed by some people (including me). However, just running out and buying the biggest and most expensive components may be not what you will really need. If you can afford it spend spend. However, if you can't I am suggesting slide the adjustments to the left a little and enjoy at that level until the first update. Then a really rational decision can be made on what you actually have to spend to move those precious sliders to the right. I don't expect miracles on the update but who knows. I run an i5-2500K clocked from 3.3ghz to 4ghz. The RAM is 8gb of 1600, 2 sticks dual channel. The video card is an old nVidia GTX550 with 1 gb of memory. Tried overclocks but nasty things happen. My power supply is 700 watts. The case is a big steel 4 fan Cooler Master. I get 30 to 40 FPS sitting at an ORBX airport which are well detailed. Flying is about the same over ORBX regions. The Autogen sliders full right, max resolution, max range, tessellation is low, shadows low and only for the aircraft. I suspect the shadow setting is the one that allows the other to be high. NO cfg changes. Here my point is that I am able to enjoy some of the new benefits of V2.0 but not all at their fullest. However, i could stay at this level of performance and functionality and not be disappointed in my purchase. I will probably look for an eBay video card from the 600 series later just to get some Vram since mine hits 1gb immediately and the gets some more from slower main RAM. regards, Dick near Pittsburgh, USA
December 11, 201312 yr Let me get this straight. You knew a lot of things were unchanged. But you bought it anyway? To help support the hobby? In other words you purchased P3Dv2 for $200 from a company that last year turned over $47.2 BILLION, just to support this hobby???? I think not Well, it doesn't work like that even for big companies, does it? The management can evaluate each project/product independently. Why did MS drop FS series in the first place? They're still making billions every year. I also bought v2 but I am not satisfied after initial try. But, I am not going to ask for refund either. I've no intention of supporting LM (obviously being as a World's biggest military contractor, they don't need our support), but I want to support individuals behind this project. Our support may be crucial if they need to convince the management when necessary.
December 11, 201312 yr Very well said, and said much better than I did. I am supporting the hobby, not LM specifically. - Bill Magann
