December 29, 201312 yr Author Hi, 1. Open Task Manager 2. Select Processes 3. Right Mouse Click on P3Dv2.0 4. Go to: Set Priority 5. Select the priority I want It then says do you want to change the priority of P3D, I press change priority and I get the above message. That's it Mike, You need to run task manager as an administrator. thats it . it shouldn't give you that message after that.
December 29, 201312 yr Commercial Member It then says do you want to change the priority of P3D, I press change priority and I get the above message. You don't want to be changing the process' priority. Trust me. On a side note, you have a PM. Cheers! December 30, 201312 yr You don't want to be changing the process' priority. Trust me. Luke, what should be the basis of this trust? I've always run FSX at High Priority and this has served me very well. Mike, I just set P3D V2 at Very High Priority (one below realtime) and am evaluating if there is benefit or not for this... December 30, 201312 yr Commercial Member Luke, what should be the basis of this trust? I've always run FSX at High Priority and this has served me very well. I trust that the authors of the Windows NT scheduler are smarter than you and I and can fairly assign CPU time between processes across multiple cores. Adjusting process priority is a good way to starve another process of needed CPU time with unpredictable effects on the system as a whole, or if there's a surplus of CPU time to be scheduled (as is the case nowadays with most multi-core processors) it has no effect. The only place where it might help is if you have a rogue process consuming 100% of a CPU's time, but then adjusting priority is merely masking the problem, not solving it. Bottom line, there's the risk of downside and no upside. If you do mess with process priorities, you should be well aware of the exact situation you are seeking to resolve and how increasing priority will affect it. I'd venture that 99.99% of the people who do can't meet this test. Cheers! Luke Luke Kolin I make simFDR, the most advanced flight data recorder for FSX, Prepar3D and X-Plane.

Hehe Luke, that rogue process is FSX ;o) Thanks though, some believable points, but as I say, hasn't hurt me a bit for FSX for years so there you go. December 30, 201312 yr I have to agree with Luke on this. Messing with app priorities is about as useful as tinkering with the FSX affinity mask unilaterally. It might help and it might not, but in general the OS does the best job with regard to scheduling.
December 30, 201312 yr Unless you set the priority to RealTime changing it will do harm. On the other hand, it's unlikely too improve performance except on a PC totally dedicated to Prepar3d. Gerry Howard
