January 15, 201412 yr Certainly, all my settings are posted in this post. Er… what post…? I must be missing something obvious. ^_^
January 15, 201412 yr Sorry, sometimes links here don't work for me. Here you go: forum.avsim.net/topic/428296-prepar3d-v2-with-ftx-global/#entry2872035 ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE
January 15, 201412 yr I'm a little concerned that their rigidity to the old fashioned release model is going to make for a very frustrating year ahead. Many of the bugs were complete showstoppers - the lack of working weather for example has kept me from using P3D at all in the last month - and would have benefitted from a more modern 'release early, release often' approach. As is it, I fear that we'll get to the end of january, and there will still be massive (and some new) show-stopping bugs that mean P3D isn't usable until april or so whenever 2.1 or 2.09 or whatever gets released. The old fashioned approach only really works when you have a sizable and representative beta testing team, and are confident that there are no 'show stoppers' at release. The initial release of 2.0 proved that isn't the case.
January 15, 201412 yr I am very very happy with LM's response to the V2.0 bug list. For those who don't remember 2 or 3 months after FSX was released MS was still telling us it was all our fault or in our imagination. :( Over the next year MS told us VERY little. If it weren't for the personal blogs by a few ACES team members we would have known almost NOTHING about what was happening behind the scene. Way to go LM!!! Good on you! FaxCap
January 15, 201412 yr For those who don't remember 2 or 3 months after FSX was released MS True. But P3D is a professional simulator. I for one, would have expected much higher quality control than for a game.
January 15, 201412 yr I use 'professional' audio recording software, and that is under constant update... same with the video editing and mastering software, which has had some show-stopping bugs. I don't think there is any software, whether a game or a professional application [operating systems and vital drivers too] that is immune to faults, and it is often only when something is released that some things come to light. I have also beta tested for several big FS companies and am therefore aware of the vast task in eliminating bugs and bringing software to market. I don't think anything would see release if you had to guarantee that it had no faults. On the subject of beta testing... boy is that a task that is open to abuse too!... we are often accused of not doing a good job [putting it very mildly] or not doing anything at all. It may seem like fun, but it is mostly a vast and boring (unpaid) job, where you do your absolute best to seek-out and report every fault you can find.. Despite the effort, not everything is spotted, and not everything reported is fixed by release, and this will always be the case. Most devs do not want to release broken or unfinished software... most care about their work. From what I've read at the LM forum, the P3D devs seem to want to do the best they can for all concerned.... and do not deserve some of the stick they receive.

There are times when doing some testing that I use the term "mind numbing" for what's really involved. Personally, I'd love to find a GOOD beta tester or two, even offer a little $$. But then I'd have to tell them about what was expected and watch them run in the other direction.
January 16, 201412 yr Sorry, sometimes links here don't work for me. Here you go: forum.avsim.net/topic/428296-prepar3d-v2-with-ftx-global/#entry2872035 My display settings are close to yours Arwen, except my mesh and texture resolution in the Terrain settings are on max (to get the full REX4 water effects), terrain shadows are set to "cast", and both aviation traffic settings are at 35%. No OOMs, but should be interesting what will need tweaking after the 2.05 patch (hopefully nothing).
January 17, 201412 yr I've since discovered that I can also set both the mesh and texture resolution to max, without any noticeable drop in FPS. I'm also looking forward to the patch. Just saw that Wes has updated the fixed list again. Link to Post Updated on 01/17: still working on open issues, I've updated the bug lists below. Making great progress and still tracking to a patch this month. Thanks again for all your support of Prepar3D v2! ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE
January 17, 201412 yr I've since discovered that I can also set both the mesh and texture resolution to max, without any noticeable drop in FPS. I think that also depends on the installed mesh and textures: you might see a drop in fps when you install high quality mesh and lots of high res textures. The list on the LM site is looking better and better! But I really hope they solve that white light and specially that multiple textures loading problem before they release the patch! (Also because the next patch may take a long long long time...)
January 21, 201412 yr But just wait and see if your PMDG NGX for P3D V2 costs less than $200! I would skip the NGX and stick only w/ the T7 ;o) But I think the real unknown here (I'm sure some already know, but I haven't heard comment so far) is how well these birds will fun in P3D V2. I think it will be remarkable if they do well out of big terminals but I guess we'll see at some point. January 23, 201412 yr I was one of the unlucky few who basically had an unusable P3Dv2 on release. After seeing all the posts from others about running out of VAS very quickly, I'm very skeptical that any PMDG planes will be able to run well at all, not so much in terms of frame rate but in terms of running out the VAS nearly immediately. I have no personal experience with this, because as mentioned P3Dv2 had far too many issues out of the box for me to even try it long enough to have a VAS issue, but I will say I'm concerned. Unfortunately, switching to 64bit is not only difficult but is incredibly likely to break a significant number of addons. -stefan
