DC-6

Recommended Posts

The DC-6 is my most anticipated release. Does anyone know if PMDG is planning to release it before the 747v2? A couple months ago PMDG was seeking qualified Beta testers for the DC-6 project. That lead me to believe it might be released before the 747v2.

This will be the only PMDG I purchase. Don't care for their electro-sleds.

I am not interested in the 747 or any other modern airliners. The two aircraft that I currently have my sights on are the PMDG DC6, and the Just Flight VC10.

I just thought it was a bit weird to simulate a fairly obscure aircraft, very few of which remain in service and which has not been manufactured for 55 years when there are very, very popular aircraft out there absolutely begging for the PMDG touch.

The DC-6 may be relatively obscure now but it must be remembered that it was produced in very large numbers and was one of the mainstay's of many major airline's fleets during the 50s and up to the mid 60s. Indeed  it was still flying in relatively large numbers in both passenger and cargo configurations in the 70s and the fact that there are still some remaining in service today is testament to a classic design. I will certainly be buying this if only to experience some non-FMC, non-EFIS, non-GPS airliner flying again and tone up my ADF / VOR / DME skills, not to mention keeping those engines happy!

To have a PMDG DC-6 of the same quality as the JS-41 and the NGX would be so incredible. It's time to take a break from all that FMC and jet whine monotony and get into a fire breathing shaky smokey old thrill of a lifetime!  :)

I always watch this vid of the RedBull DC-6 when I want to really get excited about the PMDG project.  Just close your eyes and listen to the sounds....or watch the beautiful plane too....but damn, thundering R2800s on the outside, purring on the inside, sounds sooooo good.

Hope PMDG is able to really capture the low end of the 'rumbling' radial, they need some top notch recording equipment, and we are going to need some good subwoofers lol.

I hope PMDG really takes their time with the DC-6, as much as I really would love it, it should be done right, just like all the PMDG releases.  I want to see cranky tempermental engines that really make you work to get started.   I want to see an airplane that makes me work to earn the reward of flying it.   I love the 777, but it is really easy with all the automation....which is great for the overnight long haul trips.  George is right tho, the DC-6 will really thrill us.

Cheers

TJ

I know it won't happen, but I still have dreams of a dev producing a DC3 to PMDG standards. Now that WOULD be awesome

Hi George, I had no idea, is this a project that is a long way off completion or will it be something we can look forward to fairly soon? BTW I've registered on the forum.

Hi all,

I really hope that PMDG are still working on their DC6. It would be great to have something a bit different from all those jets that they produce, amazingly wonderful as they are!

To be honest my 777 doesn't get used as much as I had hoped to, only on  very long haul because of the time compression feature! I'm really hoping for something a bit different to fly soon.

Happy Flying,

Dave Phillips.

You can download now, the Basler BT-67, C-117D and the C-47 v2 are done.  The C-117d and C-47 are temporarily using a version of the modern Basler VC but in my first link you'll see that a vintage VC is being done for them.

BTW: they all have incredible paintkits that are a pleasure to use if you're so inclined.
