February 1, 201412 yr HI All, First time poster, long time lurker. I am looking to upgrade FSX textures/environments and I have tried out the FTX Region Demo of Australia - it is AMAZING! I have also seen some footage of the PNW region and, again, mind blowing improvement. But then I noticed FTX Global and Vectors make a huge improvement on a world scale. Whilst I plan on flying my home country a lot (Australia) and the FTX Region for Australia looks phenomenal, I do want to option of going to international locations and not losing the same feeling. My question is.... Do the FTX Global + Vectors addons provide as good OR better scenery/landclass etc than the FTX Region packs or should I save my money and get the region packs because they are far superior? Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks! Matt
February 1, 201412 yr The region packs are FAR superior and closer to real world. Global gives you some welcome "eye candy" outside of the regions. Vector .... well I'm not convinced because I prefer to investigate the regions. Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk
February 1, 201412 yr I recommend you start with Global and Vector, to give yourself a serious worldwide upgrade for all seasons, including 3D lights on the ground for night flying. Don't hesitate. Just note that Global simply replaces your default landclass texture library, and Vector cleans up the edges and adds "accurate" roads and water bodies. Then start adding regions as you can afford them, because the LOD is MUCH greater, as they include some photoreal areas, hand-placed landclass, and "upgraded" airports throughout. The AUS bundle (all regions) is very affordable now, so you may want to buy that next. The highest possible detail available from Orbx comes with their airport addons, many of which cover a pretty vast area, including local towns, mountain ranges, etc. Also keep an eye out for OPEN LC, which will bring a higher level of detail and accuracy than Global, but less than the Regions. The payoff is that they will cover very large areas, like "Europe." I am a huge fan of Orbx. Their support is great. They listen to their customers, and are constantly updating their products and libraries. They offer quite a bit of freeware too. Spend time poking through their support forum. It will start to make more sense. Good luck. The rabbit hole is deep and expensive over there. Worth every penny in my opinion. And I won't stop until I own all of it. Aaron Thacker
February 1, 201412 yr Roughly put: FTX Regions: regional textures and autogen, handcrafted landclass, mesh (apart from Ireland), upgraded airports (apart from AU), handcrafted real world roads and waters, photoreal parts (usually mountains and glaciers etc.). FTX Global: generic textures and autogen FTX Vector: automated real world roads and waters FTX OpenLC: automated landclass, some regional textures (not as regional as in the FTX regions though) So the biggest advantage of the regions is almost everything is handcrafted and far more region specific, plus you get mesh, upgraded airports and some photoreal parts. Imho Global plus Vector and OpenLC, gives you a taste of FTX regions, making it less hard to fly outside of them, but for the real deal and detail the regions are the ones to have.
February 7, 201412 yr FTX Regions: regional textures and autogen, handcrafted landclass, mesh (apart from Ireland), upgraded airports (apart from AU), handcrafted real world roads and waters, photoreal parts (usually mountains and glaciers etc.). I cannot find the place to get FTX Regions for West Virginia. Can you help me narrow it down? Also, anyone, how is Rex4 different? It looks to be ALL of the ones mentioned here above. Thanx!
February 7, 201412 yr No FTX region for West Virginia. Global and Vector is what you'd need, and I recommend mesh as well for mountainous terrain. Fsglobal ultimate is a good one. FTX regions are as follows: Pacific Northwest, pacific fjords, southern Alaska, central, northern rocky mtns, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand. REX is just environmental textures; clouds, sky, water, some airport textures. Brent Baker

February 7, 201412 yr Zeddock Maybe you are referring to a post showing screen shots of West Virginia under FTX Global Textures. http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/66130-just-a-nice-little-plane-in-the-nice-little-state-west-virginia/?hl=virginia My guess is that Frank Schnibben, the topic starter and a member of the Orbx team, showed how default West Virginia looks with FTX Global. February 7, 201412 yr I recommend you start with Global and Vector, to give yourself a serious worldwide upgrade for all seasons, including 3D lights on the ground for night flying. Note that FTX Vector replaces UTX to some extent if you already have that. IMO the way to go is the region you fly most in. You can always add Global and vector if you feel like expanding. ORBX airports are usually extremely well made - see if your favorite Aussie airport is included: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/373351-avsim-ftx-airports-lists-identifier-codes-and-charts/ Cheers, Sascha Sascha Rieger | EVO Developer What is EVO • How to get Evo 2016 • FS9 Evolution Forum
February 9, 201412 yr What region would Morgantown, WV and local areas be included within please? zeddock
February 9, 201412 yr There is no region that covers WV. You would have to go with Global Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
February 9, 201412 yr FTX/ORBX will be coming out with a North America Region in 2014 Nope, that's openLC. Not the same as a region at all Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
February 9, 201412 yr I've only purchased one Orbx Region - FTX EU Ireland V1.0 but sadly I couldn't get it to work in P3DV2 ... it did work in FSX however and looked very nice. I didn't test this, but do FTX Regions included all 4 season? Rob
