February 4, 201412 yr I've been using the FAR trick ever since jcomm kindly pointed it out maybe a year ago (??), atleast when the trick was first posted. Works wonders, even gone as low as LOD 5, but that CAN easily be seen and the "fade-in" of the facades can be annoying. In my experience that fade-in is also easier to notice when flying over default textures and not photoscenery, it somehow blends where the houses should be and when they fade-in. Interesting read, I disabled OSM to remove unwanted building showing up in my airport (CYOW) and noticed a huge performance gain. I left it off ever since. The default is pretty good for me, but I will try the LOD trick later. I also run at 2560x1600 as well, so I may just leave OSM off. We 'll see. I also find this annoying, addon devs never add facade exclusions to their airports which is easy to do while in the process of making the airport, but when i have to edit the airports myself sometimes there are stuff that i can't save/export in the scenery and it just makes it really complicated for me to add the exclusions so I can see devs nice airport buildings without facades on top of them.
February 4, 201412 yr Moderator I also find this annoying, addon devs never add facade exclusions to their airports Yes this is very annoying, and it's a two part problem. I noticed some people in OSM have included airports inside national parks but haven't cut a hole in the forest for the airport, so you end up with an airport covered in trees (Makes landing fun). Since airports are already mapped in OSM, it would make sense to convert the airport boundary into one big exclude zone use some sort of automated script.

I notice yeah there are buildings tagged appropriately as airport terminals, but then again hangars in the area are just buildings, so perhaps excluding everything tagged as airport terminal would only exclude the biggest buildings, so it would only be part-resolution. What is a airport boundary? How do you find it in OSM editor? I'm not sure if airports i've looked at have airport boundaries and when they do not, how to add those. edit: I think i found it after i posted, it's the area feature "airport" which i thought was same as the "point" airport. Atleast the area feature has tags aeroway=aerodome which i think is correct. I could add the ICAO, IATA codes for it etc.
February 4, 201412 yr Moderator What is a airport boundary? How do you find it in OSM editor? I'm not sure if airports i've looked at have airport boundaries and when they do not, how to add those. There is one, but it is isn't always mapped. e.g. http://www.openstreetmap.org/way/116737532 I think also, it would be trivial to actually exclude runways, taxiways, etc. As this is where lots of the problems lie. Also, airports buildings are not always correctly tagged as airport buildings, so doing an exclude just for hangars, terminals, etc. doesn't always work.
February 4, 201412 yr It would be really helpful to upload a revised pack of facades and/or objects with lower LOD. I know little of library, but providing a new library of reduced LOD that overwrite on the run the default LOD should be a must to avoid automatic replacement in case of XP update. Riccardo Viecca

An X-Plane update won't touch the facades inside the simheaven scenery. I'll send a PM to pilotbalu and see if he'll do it

February 4, 201412 yr My fault, I thought OSM used defualt autogen. I see no obj in OSM directory, does this mean OSM data are only built on facades? Yep, osm buildings are facades, not objects
February 4, 201412 yr What would be the purpose to create lots of new obj then? Tonywob, can your routines set obj instead of facades for OSM building? Riccardo Viecca
February 4, 201412 yr Moderator Tonywob, can your routines set obj instead of facades for OSM building? Absolutely, check the thread for screenshots and details http://forum.avsim.net/topic/433700-introducing-x-plane-scenery-tool
February 4, 201412 yr Absolutely, check the thread for screenshots and details http://forum.avsim.net/topic/433700-introducing-x-plane-scenery-tool Oh yes, you can see at post #15 I even showed my appreciation...arghh getting older...what a disgrace  Riccardo Viecca
December 13, 201411 yr i have a good pc, but near city my fps drop from 40 to 18, i need to put down terrain object to very toons to stay on 25 fps, i will try with LOD as you say. cause osm with w2xp beta 6 hd is the best scenary i have seen
December 13, 201411 yr Thanks you all i have put them to 18000 and i can go on extreme object up on Rome from 30 to 50 fps Thanks
December 13, 201411 yr How did you do this as I see loads of .fac files in 3 different folder that editing them all would take hours and hours!
December 13, 201411 yr Moderator How did you do this as I see loads of .fac files in 3 different folder that editing them all would take hours and hours! Use something like the FAR tool (http://findandreplace.sourceforge.net/). It replaces all occurrences of various text. Just search across the three folders and replace the LOD value to something more sensible.
