  • Yup, the authors have stated that the x737 Project will remain freeware (well, donationware, strictly speaking).   Note that the FMC will, however, still need to be provided by an external plug-in,

Be nice to have a 3d 'pit for this at last, but I'm afraid I'll probably be spending a LOT of time in another certain 737 which should also be out later this year.

This is what keeps the X-Plane community alive and well. Incredible donationware (which is nearly free compared to FSX) that easily tosses payware rivals, both from FSX and even in X-Plane, out of the water. I daresay that this VC looks cleaner and is more faithfully modelled than the default FlightFactor B777 cockpit; this is better than payware. I can't wait.

Keep in mind, that although X-Plane has been around since the early 1990's, it's now going through the cycle that MSFS did

many years ago. Lots of good freeware. It existed for MSFS too, and the bar was continually raised.

I just don't expect the most talented developers to remain freeware, unless they are financially secure, have tons of free time, and do not have to worry about spending time with family.

Otherwise, it will end up like FSX. Especially if it becomes a very popular flight sim like FSX, where the bar is still going upwards. I'll donate and buy, just as I've done for many years.

Large commercial airports are good candidates for payware.  But there are tens of thousands of smaller airports all over the world that are accurately represented by authors who share their work, who live nearby and can take photos and create realistic models of their local airstrips.  That's something that FSX never did very well because the tools were difficult to learn and use.

I almost never buy airports, but I have a very large, complete hanger of payware aircraft.
