Finally I have FSX & the 777 installed. Fps is smooth locked at 30 with pretty much everything maxed except AI traffic. Addons - Rex direct, FTX global, ASN etc etc. Cfg has the standard tweaks - high mem fix, buffer pools etc.

 

Have done some tests that are quite worrying, hopefully someone can help.

 

First night - I left the sim running overnight with the engines running at the gate, woke up to see a blue screen.

 

Day two - left aircraft at the gate (short turn) apu running. Went for a few beers with a friend, 3 hours later on return I see the blue screen of death.

 

Today - flew a short hop from bahrain to Doha, ctd after landing :(

 

The sim itself runs perfectly. I have noticed CPU runs at 100% is that normal?

 

My I52600k runs at 4.9ghz and has been running FS9 maxed and other software flawlessly for 4 years. The only upgrade I have done is swap a gtx670 for a Titan.

 

Error on ctd is a PMDG 777 module.

Is your case clean of dust? Often as case of high processor load and blue screens.

Case is fine, no dust etc when installing the Titan. Anyway it wouldn't explain why everything else runs correctly, Including the stress test. The error is a PMDG module.

 

So 100% CPU usage is not normal for FSX? The joys of flightsimming! I only have 5 more days before I head back to the uk, was hoping to do some flying rather then trouble shooting.

100% CPU is not normally what I see on my box when FSX runs...

Ok thanks, so what usage do you see, at the gate powered up? Could you post your FSX.cfg here please.

 

I tried the affinity mask 14 setting but is seemed to reduce fps to below 30.

 

Even though the CPU is 100% everything is smooth and normal. It's all very strange.

I have the same CPU as you clocked to 4.2Ghz.

Guess I'm an old dog around here that still

has a lot to learn about FSX.

 

Am 90% sure the ctd's are caused by the UIAutomation dll. Also

After some research it seems my CPU usage is normal.

 

In cruise enroute to Delhi from Dubai, everything's working perfectly (this addon is a work of art!) hopefully it won't crash on arrival. Will spend the next 3 hours searching the forums for FSX tips.

 

If you could post your cfg that would be great.

Thanks mate! Why do you have AA on in the sim? Are you using DX10? I'm

Running everything through inspector using Ryans settings.

 

Have to say FTX global looked rubbish while departing out of Dubai (really awful) not blurry, the textures themselves looked bad, my fs9 setup looked much better, flytampa omdb & the PMDG VC + Rex direct clouds looked amazing.

 

Will have a look at your cfg and see what I have set incorrectly.

Rob, if you're experiencing BSOD's that you mentioned in your first post, that's a whole different cause than a CTD.

 

I've read in a few other developers forums were people had installed various addons then experienced BSODs and the word from the developers is that FSX or the addons/modules inside of it can't cause a BSOD in most cases. Of course software or FSX and cause a CTD, but not usually a BSOD unless its a problem with the OS or drivers. 

 

Back in July I had a new rig built and about a month after I completed my install I started getting various CTD's that I had never got before. The Event viewer would report an error from a different FSX module every time. Frustrating to say the least. Then it got so bad that the CTD's started turning into BSOD's. 

 

To make a long story short, I ran Memtest and it turned out that I had a stick of RAM that was going bad. Once I RMA'd the set of RAM and put the replacements in, I have not had an issue since. 

 

Have you taken a screen shot of the BSOD message that are posted when this happens? It might make it easier to track down. Have run run Memtest lately to check your RAM?

 

If you have a component that is starting to fail, but works fine in other applications, it could be that running FSX is taxing the hardware enough that it manifests itself in the BSOD.

Thanks for the advice, will look into it. I am skeptical about it being a hardware issue, 2 days before installing the 777 I was flying the airsimmer Advanced on the same rig, 9 hours in total with 3 take off's and landings without a hitch.

 

Have a strong feeling I got over excited about the move to FSX and didn't set things up correctly.

 

300 miles till TOD and everything seems to be going smoothly.

 

The main changes I made today - updated Nvidia Titan drivers, added affinity mask=12 to the cfg & Changed the UIAutomation.dll.. It seems one of those has fixed the issue.

Running everything through inspector using Ryans settings.

 

Have to say FTX global looked rubbish while departing out of Dubai (really awful) not blurry, the textures themselves looked bad, my fs9 setup looked much better, flytampa omdb & the PMDG VC + Rex direct clouds looked amazing.

 

Will have a look at your cfg and see what I have set incorrectly.

Yes, I'm using DX10 (steve's fixer) I was getting OOM errors without it.

If you are blue screening with that overclock, your overclock isnt stable..have you bench tested the machine with something like prime95 to test?

Hey Chris, the overclock has been running for nearly 4 years now. Overclockers.co.uk selected the chip and did the clock through the bios.   I also bench tested it with prime95 & CPUID CPU-Z when it arrived.

 

After modifying the cfg and tweaking  the sim runs beautifully, so far I have done OMDB - VIDP - EDDP & now enroute to KJFK, not a single issue.  

 

It could also have been the GPU drivers I was using.

 

Anyway, thanks for the help guy's! I am blown away by this sim 777,EZDOK,ASN,OPUS,FTX, REX Direct, Shade and SimPhysics all running ultra smooth.  

 

The Titan made a huge difference compared to my GTX670,  can't understand why some would say it's not worth upgrading the GPU for FSX.

There is no point in having a RejectThreshold set when Poolsize=0, you are essentially sending everything directly to the GPU with Poolsize=0, so the RejectThreshold never comes into play... that is at least how I understand it. Please correct me if I am wrong.
