IXEG

No one has convinced me that my original comment is unwarranted. PMDG has only produced a "proof of concept" closed beta version of the DC-6 for XP10. If the IXEG 737 sells well, there will be no room for PMDG to sell its product in such a niche market like XP10. We're not talking about either toothpaste or cell phones or automobiles, where the market is so large that it has room for all comers on the supply side.

It's not all downside though, because it may steer PMDG into focusing solely on the Triple 7, which is a much better option for them anyway.,

Market Desicions are only based on sales if you have no idea of the market. PMDG knows the market and what it is capable of pretty well, or atleast know people that have more info than any of us do.  That beeing said, RR stated on avsim that the DC-6 is just a learning exercise and that sales will not affect their decision to move to x-plane. He also said that the if any decision would be made it would be after the first commercial liner.

That beeing said, IXEG took 5 years to bring this plane to this level and it would be insane to think they can chew out another one in one or two years. So the market is still there. And if we want to theorycraft, my guess is that PMDG is developing the 744v2 not only for FSX/P3D but also X-Plane and it will be the next plane after the DC-6. PMDG's great advantage is that they can reuse the assets for alot of different simulators so any future development will be for all three simulators. So my guess is  744v2, 787 probalbly, then 777 and the ngx at last. For me that would make the most sense, allthough i have no special insight :)

So the long development times for these planes makes there is enough room for alot of developers.

The SAAB 340 is definitely up there with any platform as far as study level sim, and the Felis AN24 as well. The upcoming MD80s and the B733 should add to the list, and there is hope for the upcoming B767 from Flight Factor as well.

Yes, I forgot about the Saab 340.  Will have to wait and see about the Rotate and ATS MD80's, but they do look very good so far.  I have no hope for the  Flight Factor 767 and am done purchasing their aircraft.

me 2, terrible unrealistic models.

Why do you say that? I find their 757 to be very realistic and possibly as good as that way overpriced 777 that might enter x market some day. I could care less if PMDG builds for x because I have better things to spend 130 bucks on then a virtual airplane. You can bet they plan to stick it to the x crowd as much as they have the P3D crowd.

That is wrong, Robert stated quite clearly where they see the each simulator price wise during the big P3D announcements on this forum.  ( I gotta start keeping links from all his posts :D )  And there was no ambiguity there:  P3D is a professional plattform not primarily for private users, and their price reflects that. They see X-Plane as an entertainment plattform like FSX and it will have the similar price structure.

Now lets not get into the whole semantics about P3D Eula Discusions, but the important thing is that X-plane will not be priced like P3D. Of course you can say "we will see" and "why wouldn't they", but sofar if he posted something then you can stick by it.   The FSX T7 is $89,99 and i think this is the price we will see for x-plane. Also for the IXEG this is a somewhat realistic price because they said they will price "according to other premium products from that segment" which pretty much only entails PMDG. Also FF and JAR get away with the 60$ pricetag so they set the bar ;)

Really, have you looked closely at the modeling and textures?  In my opinion, they are not even in the same league.  I do think PMDG has high prices, but you definitely get what you pay for.

One of the IXEG developers has posted a thread where he lists what will NOT be included in v1.0 of the aircraft, mostly due to time contraints:

http://forums.x-pilot.com/topic/8526-things-that-are-not-going-to-be-in-v10/

Many of the things will probably added later. In my opinion, it's a very good move from the devs to be that transparent.

As a texture artist that currently works for two FSX developers I look at textures and modeling very closely and think FF did a great job with the 757. Who else has actual live reflections of the yoke and other items in the panel glass? The cockpit lighting is completely variable and looks wonderful. The panel itself is detailed and crystal clear. Of course you may look at things differently but for me the 757 is a work of art.

Obviously, opinions vary.  Try comparing the FF757 to real photographs.

The JAR A330, MD80, and soon to be released IXEG 737 are top notch examples of excellent textures.

Well since you are an expert than there is no argument,,you must be correct.

You are the one that claimed to be the "Texture Artist" that works for two FSX developers.  Sounds like you are the one trying to be an "Expert".   Read what I posted, it does not say anything about being an expert.  Enough bickering, this is the IXEG thread, opinions vary!

Thanks for the link.

Interesting list and was surprised to see no TCAS and proper HOLD page. Now when Rotate mentioned no TCAS on the MD80 some people were in uproar and saying they were going to wait for the fully featured IXEG. Wonder what they will think now.......

just to clarify the IXEG does have holds, but only the published holds.  basically all holds that are in the nav data are usuable with 1.0 on release what you can't do initally is that you can program a hold everywhere you like.

also it does have a rudimentary tcas, it will say "traffic, traffic"  what it wont do is calculate the evasion route and show it on the display.

so there are differences between no feature and limited feature
