So how do I get the Show Aircraft position in Google Earth to work, there is no mention of this anywhere in the documentation.

The term is a bit misleading: it is not meant that you have a moving map. It "just" shows the position of the saved flight aircraft. So you could see, hey, where the heck was my plane as I saved it ;)

You simply have to press it, Google Earth should then show the pin on the map ...

Very misleading and I am still none the wiser how to use this facility. I simply have to press what and where exactly?

Cheers, Andy.

Ah, ok, I thought you have discovered the button...

Press "JumpStart" on the main GUI

Now you can select a saved flight, and if so, you see some datas for that flight:

Altitude, Koordinates, which Plane, which state (on ground etc)

Next to it, theres a button "show in Google Earth". Press it, and then you'll see where your plane from the saved flight is in the world.

Is it clearer now?

Yes thank you, I only downloaded this software today so was not familiar with that buttons useage, and now I see the button you speak of thank you.

Cheers, Andy.

I just tried this fantastic piece of software yesterday and I can't say enough good things about it.

Thanks for making this great software, now where's that donate button... B)

Hi Andy,

thank you for using SIMstarter the first time.

There are two ways to use SIMstarter with GoogleEarth:

  • Using "GoogleEarth Export"
    • Will create a .kml File for GoogleEarth which includes all your installed AddOn Airports
    • Menu > Tools > Google Earth Export...
    • But it just shows Airports - not the position of saved aircrafts in saved flights
  • Using "Show position in GoogleEarth"
    • Will create another .kml file which includes the position of a aircraft of a saved flight
    • Startscreen > Click "<< Jumpstart >>"
    • Select a saved flight > Click "Show position in GoogleEarth"

But I will add the button "Show position in GoogleEarth" in Startdefinition too. ;O)

Guys this is a final update. Last night I was able to recreate the exact same "vanishing scenery scenario and emailed Peter who then called me on Skype. We found the culprit, Couatl from FSdreamteam would stop running causing my airport to vanish! I am now sorting out the problem over at the fs dream team forums I want to thank Peter for the phenomenal support especially last night as even though it became clear in the first 5 mins it wasn't SIM start he still spent a further 2 hours trying to fix my machine.

If anyone was holding off on this product because of my reported scenery crash then you can be assured the error was mine and NOT SIMstarter onward and upwards!

Hi Zoran,

thank you, that you've given me the opportunity to gather more information about your initial problem... For sure it looked like the problem Clutch has posted.

But as we know now - SIMstarter was not the root cause.

I would have liked that Clutch would have given me the opportunity to analyze that issue in more detail. Unfortunately, he has, despite repeated questions, not responding.

But no matter - it works and that's the main thing! ;O)

@Clutch (Marcus simWest): all the best for your payware project!

YOUR INPUT REQUESTED:

Thus SIMstarter further developed in the right direction, I need your feedback:

  • Which kind of feature are you missing?
  • What seems to be too komplex?
  • In case you not use SIMstarter - what would you need to use it?

Version 2.3 will include these features:

  • SceneryManager
    • Assign one or multiple ScenerySets to one profile
    • Add or delete sceneries from scenery.cfg directly
    • Allow to sort the list of ScenerySets
    • Allow to activate/deactivate selected sceneries in ONE or ALL ScenerySets
  • Google Earth Export
    • Export aircraft positions of all saved flights to GoogleEarth
    • Set your own symbols and colors for GoogleEarth features
    • Create a HTML-File with your AddOn Airports in parallel to the GoogleEarth Export
  • XML-Manager
    • Add or delete AddOns at DLL.XML/EXE.XML directly

If anyone would like to be part of the BETA-Team, please send me an email. ;O)

Thanks for asking for additions to this excellent program, here's my wishlist ranked in order:

1. A moving map injection for GE with the generated .kml of scenery would be a great addition, akin to FSXGet, which I use during beta testing large scenery regions.

2. A shutdown/restart on-the-fly option with ability to load a certain flight and profile, would be super handy for performance testing and/or scenery beta testing.

3. Ability to assign each additional program loaded with the sim to a certain core or process priority, i.e. load TrackIR on Core0 with High Priority or ASN on Core0 with Below Normal Priority.

If you could add those to the program I'd pay an "upgrade" donation for sure!

Hi Philip,

thank you for your input! ;O)

Regarding point 3 of your list:

Do you mean just adding a priority or assigning the core too? Example: TrackIR should run with HighPrio at Core 1,2,3?

I'd prefer to be able to set each program to a certain core and priority (if possible).

Thanks for the consideration!

Have a look at EasyToolz

This little program let you set the cores as you like it and set the priority also.

Best feature is, that it is able to switch all unsigned executables to the free core.

Eg.g you set FlightSim to Cores 0,1,2, then EasyToolz will automatically set all other running programs to core 3 (if you have selected the option). Once flightSim is ended, ET will bring them back.

Hi Clutch Cargo,

I am sorry, that you have some problems with your SIM after using SIMstarter. I am the programmer of SIMstarter. More than 1000 Users are using SIMstarter and me and all of the BETA Team never experienced such problems.

Why haven't you used the backup which is stored in .\Backup Subdirectory of SIMstarter? As stated in the manual (LINK) on page 6 SIMstarter will do a backup before EVERY CHANGE to ANY of your SIM files. Therefore the easiest way would be use the first backup which have been done by SIMstarter.

Regarding your problem: It would be great if you could send me your scenery.cfg. I would like to double check your file to find out, why SIMstarter is crashing.

If you or any other users have a bad experience with my useful tool, don't heasitate to contact me: [email protected]

Regards,

peter
