Kyle - Please do a CYYZ shirt design and I will buy

Featured Replies

Stumbled upon your shirts with the airport diagram on them.  I'd do one myself but I am lazy.  Please do one for CYYZ and I will buy.  And if you're ever in YYZ I'll also buy you a beer (which in American equals 5 beers)

Yea you probably  find written on the back Read the manual  lol

I'll look into it.  It'll probably take longer because I'd have to draw it by hand.  With the US stuff, I end up getting a lot of the data from the FAA diagrams, and then edit them to clean them up.  Since that data is free, I don't need to get permission or pay fees to use it.

Canadian charts are free just like US ones on Fltplan.com http://imageserver.fltplan.com/merge/Canada/merge1404/Single/CYYZ_AERODROME_CHART_PAGE_1.pdf - Not sure if these are what you go off of, if not, I can try to get you what you need.  I really like the idea for shirts, but I'd rather wear my local one.

While Canadian charts are (in fact, all ICAO charts should be) freely available, it does not automatically mean you are free to use them in a way Kyle does.

Exactly.  I meant to say similar this morning, but couldn't really figure out a good way to put it.

As Peter mentioned, freely available doesn't necessarily mean free to profit from.  A lot of sites that have free data have notes that you can't profit from the use of the data and so on.  That said, I stick to my own, known sources, where I won't get in hot water for using their data.  I'll look into what data I can find, though.  If nothing else, I'll just hand draw it.

I figured that's what was meant.  I'm not too sure if it's still considered "stealing" the work when you change it so much that the finished product is so different from the actual published chart.  I wonder if I called NavCan and asked them if I could print their chart on a shirt they'd be like "uhhh...ok...weird...but ok".  Like you said though it could be a different story if you were going to make millions.

Anyway, it's a cool idea for a shirt if you're an avgeek.
