LevelD 767 Site is OFFline.....Interesting

The official answer is that the site(s) are down because of problems integrating what were previously stable scripts on a Windows 2000 server to a Windows 2003 based server. For those that have not done it yet, use caution jumping your sites over to Win 2003 server. I am amazed at how things crashed. We have had Windows 2000 Servers run for MONTHS without a hiccup, and we had multiple crashes with Windows Server 2003 on new server equipment, all in the first 24 hours.Maybe once adapted, Windows Server 2003 is better, more stable, etc, but it is sure no fun getting there. That is the official answer! Integrating to much more powerful servers to handle upcoming load, etc...

Thanks,

Mr. Halpern: Your explanation is much appreciated! The "bad" however is that the site was not down due to the release being done. I speculated it might have been due to the release, which now you prove not being the case...Now, if the LevelD team could also update us on how things are today with the 767, it would be wonderful. Too much to ask?Regards, Marcelo Santiago, ChilePosted on Thursday, Feb10, 9.10pm EDT

>Okay, I've got to ask.>>What's with the big anticipation for the 767? Presumably>there's rave reviews, or a big precedent set by the>developers?>>I've got the PMDG 737NG and F1 ATR, so am interested in good>payware.>>What's so special about this one?>>Assuming it's as good as implied here, should one buy it, or>wait for PMDG's 747 - assuming I could only purchase one....>>Cheers>TimI've got the PMDG 737 and F1 ATR as well, and they are my favorite complex add-ons. The 767PIC was a 2000/2002 add-on with the realism of F1, Dreamfleet, PMDG add-ons. Even models a host of failures.Just goto the website and check out the screens and product info. It's gonna be another top quality add-on. Click PRODUCTS for the features list and SCREENSHOTS for those! Also, a manual is available under downloads, but it might be bigger when it's actaully released. http://www.leveldsim.com/sevensix_home.asp

I read some of the posts in this thread questioning LDS, and I did not know whether to laugh or cry. Apparently some of you have not been in FS very long, or forgot history. This 767 "product" first appeared as a freeware panel for FS98, created by a very dear friend of mine, and real 767 pilot, Eric Ernst. After several versions, culimnating in a drop dead wonderful one for FS98, it became the payware 767PIC for FS2000, which was later upgraded for FS2002.With a publishing change (Wilco to Flight 1) a necessary name change from 767PIC LDS 767 came about.Oh yeah, these guys have been around in FS longer than some of the names mentioned above. Some of you might want to learn the history of this product. They already set the standard, and they will once again set it.So, so much for questioning the validity of this development team. They have had but one product, and have continued to refine it over the years. They were around before some of the development groups mentioned above, and even the one indicated on my banner below. :-)Oh, Steve Halpern, the server is down again! :-lolRegards,http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...R_FORUM_LOU.jpg

A good history lesson...from one who definitely knows. LDS 767 is the latest in a tradition of classic add-ons to FS that have pretty much earned the universal respect of most all long term high end FS users. That is one of the reasons the anticipation for this product is so high and has grown men checking the web site every few hours or days. I'm sure it will be great and worth every penny, as well as setting a new and higher bar for FS add-ons.Don't judge the product by the 767 forum on Avsim. I agree, there are some long time users who are not polite, not helpful and not too friendly to new or potential new owners of the 767 PIC product. It wasn't like that in the early days. Maybe they are just grumpy because it's been a long wait for LDS 767. At any rate, they aren't the designers and they aren't the product, even though they come across as trying to take that identity on some occasions. I've always found Wade Chafe and the actual team very helpful and professional.Best of all, Wade just said it will probably only be a couple more weeks!Hi Lou...chris conklin

Hey Hawkman, Totally empathize with your opinion and sorry you feel that way. That's why I don't hang about and contribute to these forums all that much. I like to figure things out for myself and if I'm really stuck I'll do a search (in the PMDG forum for example) before posting a question. I do know that Level-D's sim is going to be as good as if not better than the PMDG 737 which I fly exclusively. Wht not just buy the very best add on going and ignore the forums and the eletist behaviour found in them? It would be a shame to miss out. Best RegardsBoone,[email protected]"Flying a plane is no different from riding a bicycle. It's just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes."

By the way Lou forgot to mention that the patch from FS2000 to FS2002 was done for free. As for comments regarding some fanatics in the PIC forum, you really cannot hold the developer responsible for the actions of people that are not associated with the development team. In addition, Wilco handled the support for 767PIC and I would agree they were basically awol other than selling the product and hosting update files....perhaps (and I am speculating here) that is why the new product will be supported by Flight1.Mark.

For those wanting to know: Wade posted a message in one of the threads yesterday (Feb 10) that it will be at least another 2 weeks till release. :-roll

All,Thanks for the posts, concerns, and discussion. There are so many posts that I will try to answer as much here as I can.I was going to start out with a detailed account about how I got into 767PIC. I won't bore you all with the details. Just know that as a "user," I am very aware of the history behind this program. Also, that I was a huge supporter of this franchise over the years.Yes, I have lead many folks to buy this program. Whether it was someone asking me about simware at the computer store, or just all the folks I know who own the latest version of FS. (Yes, many of my friends know I sim as a hobby so they all ask me for my opinions on the latest simware.)Anyway, one thing lead to another and the next thing you know I was lurking and writing in the PIC Forums. And yes, I stand by everything that I previously wrote. Any questions about the "cult-like," or fanatical members just take a look at some of the other "responses," that were posted to my Level D post in the other string in this same forum.Well, needless to say, it does not speak of a high level of maturity and leadership to see such behavior condoned. In addition, watching others be censored along with watching newbs being made fun of and run off did not speak well to me, or make me want to be a continued customer of this franchise.I know that someone wrote how can you hold the developer responsible for the activities in a forum? Well, I ask you what if the developer IS the moderator of that forum? What then?Again, my postion is that 767PIC was way, way ahead of the competition upon its initial release. However, some of the companies that have shown up since then have made huge strides in this genre. So much so, that I believe Level D will find they are not all that much more, if any more at all than the latest out from PMDG or DreamFleet. (Is there some reason that a company or product that was not here back when PIC was first released CAN'T be ahead or any better?)Anyway, as previously stated mostly because of what I've seen along the years I have chosen NOT to patronize this franchise. Accordingly, I will definately NOT be recommending a purchase of this simware to my friends or anyone who asks. There are just too many good companies out there that treat their customers with respect and just seem like they want to have fun doing it. And, IMHO that is what this hobby is all about. . .having fun.Gary Hawk

Why can't you just buy the lds 767 and enjoy the product...Alex

WellI agree with Gary on one point which is that the Support forum has been a real zoo with some really nasty denizens for quite awhile. It is interesting to note that I don`t see these folks posting anymore now that it is heavily moderated. That in my opinion is a step in the right direction.I think the LDS-767 will be worth having and would`nt let the past nonsense on their forum disuade anyone from getting it.Troy
