A Few Questions

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone;

I haven't posted here in a long time. I've been flying FS since the early 80's. I've been flying the PMDG 737NG for FS2004 for years. Finally decided to try to get FSX running halfway decent and I've purchased the NGX, and love it BTW. I'm hoping you folks can help with a few questions...

1. In the 2004 NG there was a "80 knots" callout during the takeoff roll, is that not available on the NGX?

2. Is the only way to establish ground power with the cart? No way to simulate power coming from the jetway or building?

3. Is the IFE power switch supposed to be missing on the 600/700?

Thanks much ahead of time.

1. Can't remember if it is there or not.  You need to access the options via the FMC.  There is no "toolbar" like older PMDG products.  I use FS2CREW so I think that actually says it.

2. I have never seen power coming from the jetway or building.  Does this exist in real life?  I have only ever seen power from GPU or APU.  Again, those options are in the FMC

3. Sorry, can't remember.  if it is not there, then I suppose it is meant to be missing.

Have a look at the manuals for more info.

Hello Dave, and welcome to the NGX club!

For the NGX there is no 80 knot call out, but if you look at the PFD, it will announce Throttle Hold in the FMA panel once you reach I believe 83 knots.

Power in the NGX is supplied either via the APU or the ground cart, only.

I can't answer on the IFE power switch for the 600/700 versions, just have a look at the FCOM for that,

hope that helps,

Thanks guys;

Yes the manual says that Throttle Hold will announce at 84 knots. At most US airports power is available from the building or jetway and that's what I've seen used most of the time when I'm flying as a passenger. I suspect you're right about the IFE switch not being there, probably because most airlines buying those variants chose not the have the IFE installed.

Well, in real life, you would have a cable mounted somewhere near the bottom of the jetway, so you don't have to lug carts around. Plus, no diesel, no fumes and no noise.

Visually, yes.  While the 777 does place a box where a jetway unit might be, the NGX does not do this.  It only shows a stand-alone, diesel-powered GPU.  In the end, though: power is power.
