April 28, 201412 yr I have both as well, I currently fly the Diamond DA40 (real world) so i thought I would pick up the katana just to be in the mind frame. It's a great plane, but sad to say I got bored very quickly. Hand flying sims in my setup is very challenging. That was one of the main reasons I pick up the ASA C172 (auto pilot). Again, great plane, but again got bored very quick. I like the more TAA aircraft's. So the C172 gave me the walk around/maintenance frame of mind but I was losing the Garmin 1000 frame of mind. Cannot wait until someone produces both of these for our simming pleasure. So currently I fly in the Sim the Cirrus SR22, because I'm going for my high performance endorsement, and high altitude, and to be checked out in both the SR20 and SR22. Hope this helps, Ray Hi Ray- Just out of curiosity, have you tried any of the DA40s? I use Iris'. There's also the Lionheart version... Unfortunately, I haven't found any matching the one I fly, which has steam gauges and a 530/430. I've built my own 2D panels using RXP stuff. cheers Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g

I could not find Iris model, I checked their website and still could not find it. How does it fly? It should float during your landing flare if you have any power left in. Does it have diff braking? What about the start-up process? Would be great if Iris has one. Thanks, Ray
April 29, 201412 yr Hi Ray - Here is the link to the Iris craft. Mostly I use it procedurally, so take this with a grain of salt. Flies OK - a little over powered, but suitable for my purposes. When I have my joysticks set up / calibrated, "feel" is fine. Cruise seems pretty accurate. Turns are good. Overall performance is a bit too ideal compared to the real aircraft, but it's good. I rarely fly over 8500 so I'm not sure what happens once you push the envelope... I can set 24/24 and be happy with the performance. Differential braking - not sure, isn't that a function of FSX/Pedals? I do seem to remember being able to do this... I don't use my brakes much Start-up is as easy or detailed as you like. I don't think it's affected by anything, so you can switch it on, adjust mixture and throttle, and fire it up without priming or anything. That said, I'm not particularly concerned with accurate start up, especially because the trickiness comes in hot starts. Also the DA40 I fly tends to get rough on the right mag check, I assume because people taxi at full rich all the time. I can burn it out, but it would be kind of cool if there was a way to simulate this. regards Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
April 29, 201412 yr Thanks Andrew I'll have to check it out. I really wish AeroSoft would do a DA40, because their Katana is really nice. -Ray
April 29, 201412 yr Enjoy the 172 Gregg. You can either fly a factory fresh 172 or press a button and the 172 becomes a worn out clunker...which will encourage you to a thorough preflight Cheers TJ Which button is that?
April 29, 201412 yr Commercial Member Hello, the 'Used' button will give you a used aircraft with a random amount of hours, wear etc. These aircraft come with various parts allowing you to simulate renting an aircraft that isn't factory new. Remember to pre-flight and if ever coming back to the 172 after a break check that no insects have made any nests anywhere or anything of that sort of thing. A good general rule of thumb in aviation as told by one of our test pilots is if ever you take your eyes of the aircraft then its best to pre-flight again. Once when he did this before a display at an airshow he found a teddy bear stuffed in one of the inlets of the Mustang. thanks, Lewis Lewis - A2A Simulations
April 29, 201412 yr Which button is that? Make sure you have the latest core update, then in sim with the A2A 172 loaded. Open Controls config (Shift-2) and Maintenance Hangar (Shift-7), you might rearrange them so you can see both. Press the 'USED' button on bottom of the controls pop up...say OK to the warning. This will randomly 'age' the airplane. Observe the Maint. hangar window. Press the used button again will randomly age the plane again and randomize the repair list if you want. Press Complete Overhaul on the Maint window if you want a fresh airplane again. April 29, 201412 yr Author I just thought I'd say it is cool that it shows your actual tail number on the plate in the cockpit. It's a little thing but those little things add up. April 29, 201412 yr Author Um...do the windows fog up on this thing? Sitting on the ground the glass was fogged and I opened the window and vis was great. I cranked it up and turned on the air and in slowly cleared up. That'd be clever. Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. April 29, 201412 yr they sure do there's a cabin ventilation knob on right lower panel ( not the heating knob )

April 29, 201412 yr The 172's defroster vent is located on the dash in front of the windshield, you may have to pan your VC view up a little to see it. Make sure this is open if you want to avoid windshield fogging. Cheers TJ "The knack of flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." - Douglas Adams Tejon 'TJ' Stanley
