September 7, 201510 yr I still do not understand how Google is not a co-defendant in this suit. Why do you think Google paid 4billion dollars to buy motorola? A basically irellevant mobile phone producer that missed almost all changes on the market? They paid that sum because motorolla owns a bunchload of patents from the early days of mobile technology. They buy those to defend themselves but also dont shy away to use them against samsung, apple, htc or microsoft. Dont be naive, Google might not like the current system but they sure as hell exploit it like everyone else does.
September 8, 201510 yr Sure, been cheaper to pay off trolls than having legal process drag on for years. The politicians could fix this looppole in 20 minutes, but campaign contributions come from these trolls go to both sides of ideological dviide. The money provided by troll lawyers makes it hard to vote certain way especially in swing district or jobs these law firms provide. The politicians will give lip service for legal and copyright reforms as politics makes strange bedfellows.
September 8, 201510 yr Commercial Member Actually, the real issue is even more stupid than you think... What the 'patent' covers has existed since before a cell phone. It's been used by software on PCs for a long, long time. Somehow the patent office awarded an idiot a patent to a technology that's existed for a long time and declared it as 'unique' simply because it's on a cell phone. Dumbest thing I've ever seen.
