May 2, 201412 yr Still would make a lot of sense if you tried a vanilla FSX. sigh.....:-( Rob Robson
May 2, 201412 yr (...) This time I used Process Explorer (CTRL ALT DEL) to assign the OPUS weather engine to the last CPU core (core 3 in my case). (...) Just a tiny HU: CTRL ALT DEL brings up the native Windows task manager; Process Explorer is an "addon" (to be downloaded from official Microsoft sites). What happened to AVSIM
May 2, 201412 yr Commercial Member Yeah, I keep forgetting that, DX9 a distant memory. I will give it a go. Well I am on DX10, I used HIGHMEMFIX with both dx9 & 10 Rob Prest
May 2, 201412 yr Just a tiny HU: CTRL ALT DEL brings up the native Windows task manager; Process Explorer is an "addon" (to be downloaded from official Microsoft sites). Thx. I changed the words Process Explorer into Taks Manager :-) Well I am on DX10, I used HIGHMEMFIX with both dx9 & 10 yes, but this was about Steve telling me that something is totally wrong with my VANILLA FSX install if the 777 shows graphical problems without the HIGHMEMFIX in the .cfg This was not about the freezes problem. I dont want to ruin your install...... But you would have to try DX9, then delete the HIGHMEMFIX and then test the effect. Otherwise comparing to my DX9 install is comparing apples with pears. May 2, 201412 yr Yes Chris, you open up fsx.cfg and scroll down to the graphics section and add the line HIGHMEMFIX=1 just below [GRAPHICS] If that's the case, then I am puzzled. I do not recall adding that line after reinstalling FSX and all of my addons, so (according to some of you) shouldn't I be experiencing all kinds of problems?? do you have installed FSX to a different folder than default? i.e. c:\Games\FSX or something like this (or another drive) should be ok. Otherwise you have to give fsx admin rights to work like a charm I have never had a problem running it directly from the default folder. According to me, yes :-) You using DX10? Never change a winning team though....and Dont fix it if it aint broken.... ;-) Rob Robson
May 2, 201412 yr If you reinstall FSX with both SPs (SP1+2) or with the AccPack, then HIGHMEMFIX is added by the installers. But if you delete your fsx.cfg later on, FSX will build a fresh one without the HIGHMEMFIX. What happened to AVSIM
May 2, 201412 yr 777Simmer, Steve is implying that you are not running a "vanilla" FSX until you uninstall that OPUS weather engine. It is not part of the default FSX installation, and is therefore an addon that could affect your test results. By the way, I am running FSX in DX9 mode. Oliver, If that is the case, then I should already have the "HIGHMEMFIX=1" statement in my fsx.cfg file. I will conduct a closer inspection tonight  Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
May 2, 201412 yr Commercial Member Christopher, it all depends on how you have windows configured. It was a nightmare doing tech support with guy's that had FS9/FSX installed in the default folder (x86) Always best to install outside of that folder unless you know how to properly configure permissions & setup admin rights. Rob Prest
May 2, 201412 yr Commercial Member ...install FSX onto the default drive and set Write and Modify permissions for the Users group on the FSX program files folder, then install the 777... This is the magic that makes everything work like Windows XP did. I tried DX9 for two flights. The performance appeared just below that of DX10, not by much. The dead looking cockpit interior reminded me of a 2D panel. Surprising no differences other than the extra VAS used by highmemfix. One thing showed up though, the time it took to fill in the VC was a lot longer than DX10. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
May 2, 201412 yr For a reinstall, proceed like this: http://support.precisionmanuals.com/kb/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx What happened to AVSIM
May 2, 201412 yr With any luck, I will never have to visit that page. One major reinstallation of FSX and all of my addons is quite enough, thank you very much  Always best to install outside of that folder unless you know how to properly configure permissions & setup admin rights. If that's the case, then I have been lucky on two separate PCs. I have never messed about with permissions and setup admin rights on the two PCs that I have installed FSX on (my old Q9550/Windows Vista 64bit, and my current i5 2500k/Windows 7 64bit), and I don't recall having any problems that could be related to that. But if you delete your fsx.cfg later on, FSX will build a fresh one without the HIGHMEMFIX. I just looked at the original.cfg file that I backed up after Acceleration was installed. No HIGHMEMFIX in there! Maybe it was in there before Acceleration was installed......but not after in my case. It would be interesting to see if there are differences between SP2 and Acceleration. Maybe all those with freezes have acceleration and the knes without have SP2, lol. Rob Robson
DX9 ok that is interesting. What CPU and GPU do you have? Vanilla FSX: I am as vanilla as possible for my FSX requirements. The idea here is to get rid of them freezes while being able to fly the PMDG777 with real world weather. I have not installed any other addons so I can troubleshoot the most basic install possible. I am willing to switch to ASN if OPUS is causing this for me......but if I have to fly with less than those two addons then I will switch to Xplane. I mean, I dont even have any scenery addons installed yet! Sure I can test with default FSX B737 and without OPUS. And suppose that works ok. Then what? Use that only, lol (not sure how things come across, but nothing rude or unfriendly meant above, just FYI) It looks that with OPUS on core 3 I am getting somewhere, so I am keeping my fingers crossed..... I'm stumped - and I get my freezes with SP1+2 only! :wacko:Yeah...gotta love PC and software tech. Only? As in you dont have freezes with acceleration? or You dont have freezes without SP1+SP2 Rob Robson
