I thought everyone and their dog used this line in their .cfg?

Everyone does.  I have no idea what the intention of that message was.  Part of it was almost a question.  Regardless, how HIGHMEMFIX could cause stalling is completely beyond me.

Highmemfix is not a tweak.

It is a fix!

It was left out by Aces by mistake in SP2/Acceleration.

(got that from a highly reliable source)

The intention of my message or of SteveW's message? I was simply advised by many to use HIGHMEMFIX and used it. I don't know the ins and outs of it nor do i have time to test for it. I am not a coder!

Whoa there, James...I was referring to Steve's comment.  No need to dive into foxholes...

I thought you were referring to his comment but wasn't sure so asked. I certainly wasn't having a go at you with the second half of my comment, that was aimed at Steve. Lots of crossed wires in this thread here!

Either way i'm with you that HIGHMEMFIX wouldn't cause these issues given how widely used it is. PMDG would reccomend it turned off if it was something that caused issues as they wouldn't have to issue a service pack fix for that.

You have to run without HIMEMFIX to be sure. I just googled around for a bit and found mostly stuff about how completely useless it is.

Funny, as I Googled around for a bit and found just as many results mostly saying the opposite. As you would expect.

HIGHMEMFIX=1 Fixes errors with texture addressing modes in WDDM1.0 and 1.1 when using a lot of video memoryThe HIGHMEMFIX=1 you see above, fixes a bug in the FSX engine on how it handles texture addressing modes (Wrap,Clamp) and initial render states on single pass shaders, it will completely prevent textures, buildings and entire cockpits from dissapearing! this 'bug' is triggered when there is a high video memory usage situation.

Many happy users. I'm not going to disable it just to test for it being the cause of these errors. There are more likely things to try first.

Mind posting some links, because that contraverts just about everything most of the industry-trusted sources say.  Apart from random people asserting "OMG THIS IDNDT WERK FOR ME LOL!!!" who is saying it's useless?

Yes but you're heading way off track, don't you remember, I'm saying you need to be sure by eliminating all possibilities - the validity of various tweaks is a discussion for another thread.

Here's a funny story. I was helping this guy a few years back, FSX just kept hanging, new machine he sent back and took another new one, still the same. He put Windows on, all the palava, then FSX, then Acceleration. Then loaded a plane, went for a flight and it hung every time. We went through that a few times and I was getting in the car at 3am to head over as he lived quite near, he just happened he said I just don't know why I can't get my lady going, "what!" I said. He said "my lady! - my lovely new XXXX". He was putting on a new aircraft and loading that first and telling me it was stock. Hehe.

A tweak to cure another problem, like texture bandwidth issues, and largely does not work and causes other problems like stalling? (...)

Steve,

which one was first?   :P

1) You brought up the validity of tweaks so don't throw that one on me.

2) Not sure what that story has to do with anything here, frankly.

3) I'm bored of arguing over this.

Again, It's not the validity of tweaks, it's the elimination of possibilities that's needed. So you like HIMEMFIX=1 that's great, but it's not important works or not, if you've not tried without, how do you know? So you start with a stock setup and work up until you hit problems.

Story? Just passionate about helping.

So I just left LIPZ in a thunderstorm four times with and without, and both times without was smoother and 19fps was held, whereas I saw 6fps with HIMEMFIX=1. Perhaps seven years ago the GPUS may have responded but I never saw it then. Some guys here seem all too easily upset. I'm not attacking personal feelings on the subject, i'm saying "eliminate your stuff", so what if there's not been issues with it before. The guy in the fancy story had a new version of a plane he used regularly before he got the new PC so he felt new PC and new version would be nice altogether, spent all night with it.
