Thinking about the Flight1 King Air...

Just wanted to say Thanks to everyone here that helped me out in my decision here.  I finally decided to get the RealAir Beech Piston Duke v2 and so far, I am loving it!!!!  What an excellent aircraft!!!

It has been quite interesting getting "back to basics" so to speak with this aircraft.  I'm so used to programming generating a route with PFPX, having it calculate all the fuel, importing into a FMC, and more or less just going - babysitting a computer.  I'm not criticizing this at all as this is still my first passion in aviation - airline flying.

But, in case anyone else in my shoes is wondering too, it is very nice to fly.  Even without rudder pedals.  I think it actually flies easier than the Q400 for me as far as how much rudder input is really needed.  Of course, I am making use of the YD though too but I do in the Q as well.  The Duke seems to me to require a lot less right rudder on takeoff though than the Q before I actually kick on the AP/YD.

I don't have the RealityXP gauges yet.  I'm not sure if I will add them or not as the default GPS might be enough?  We'll see.  The biggest drawback that I see so far is that I can't enter a flight plan in it.  The good side to that is programming it is very quick and easy via generating a flight plan via PFPX and then just loading the flight via the normal FSX flight planner to get it into the GPS.  So, that saves time but also is less realistic I suppose.

Anyway, it's a beautiful aircraft and I'm so glad I got it.  This has been a void for me that is finally filled.  I now have that small GA aircraft that is "as real as it gets" as far as having to operate it correctly but also something you can just get in and go fly.  No 30 minute pre-flight routine before you can finally push back and start the engines.  That's refreshing for me right now and the airports that I can fly to, well, almost limitless.  No more flying an "assigned route" that an airline would fly.  It's such a "free" feeling.  :)

So, having said all that, I have done a handful of flights in my local area to get used to everything and to remember the "basics".  I'm feeling pretty good about operating the A/C overall and confident enough to embark on my new adventure with the Duke:

An around the world flight!  I am basing it off of the routing here http://www.itsyourplane.com/world/Flight%20Simulator%20-%20Cessna%20Trip%20Around%20The%20World.asp#8 .  I am modifying somewhat so that I can leave from my home town(KGRB) though and not Oceano, CA.  Though, I will still keep that destination in the plans and just at some point have to make the jump inland to/from KGRB.

If you loose an engine in a twin, you are going to want rudder pedals B)

Yeah, I'm sure I would.   :O   But, then I will just have to make some serious use of the twist joystick I guess.  It won't be fun nor will it be easy.  I may not even survive the situation I guess.  But, I'm ok with that.

I have them on the list of things that I'd like to have for flight sim. Unfortunately, they just aren't that high and/or I just don't have the $$.  The fact that I can fly this in normal ops just fine doesn't help bump them up on the list either.  And, to get them just for that "rare" situation, it's just hard to justify.

I know, I know.  From a purist point of view, I'm crazy.

S'Truth.  But it's OK, we like you anyway.   :P

Seriously congrats on the new plane.  It's my current favorite, and has been from the day of its release.  Enjoy!

Good choice!

You'd like the king air too!
