June 16, 201411 yr How's about a trip around/across/up/down Tasmania? It's Orbx, it's free and the weather isn't too bad this time of year. Tasmania demo and the freeware airport, Launceston (right underneath BOB) Something to think about maybe. The World is divided into two groups. June 16, 201411 yr Sounds like a good idea, Ron! I have Tasmania installed but I haven't spent much time flying it.
June 17, 201411 yr Tasmania sounds great. I have been setting up a flight through Yellowstone Park (Wyoming, US) to start us exploring the dramatic and beautiful Orbx Central and Northern Rockies. That can hold a week for sure... Mike --Mike MacKuen
June 17, 201411 yr It sounds like we've got plenty in the pipeline already, but if we're starting to think about where else we can fly in the future, I could put together some plans for Oregon (I lived there for 4 years) based on Orbx PNW (+ some of CRM). I could also do something for Iceland, a country I know quite well and was fortunately fhe subject of the Orbx demo for the Global+Vector etc package. Better to do that one sometime in summer, if we want to use real weather!
June 17, 201411 yr I would also be up for some flights around England/Scotland/Wales as well. Craig Taylor
June 17, 201411 yr Author I was also thinking about Iceland..... Not really. The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
June 19, 201411 yr Not sure what sorts of Tasmanian flying Ron has in mind. Here is a suggestion for those who have an interest in characterful airfields and time on their hands. All freeware. As you know, FTX Australia (including Tasmania) does not do airports. So we have stock airfields for our adventure. We might, however, want to take advantage of the great work of the OZx team. In their Australia package, they include models for five of Tasmania's FSX airports. (They also include something like 20 airstrips that are not in the FSX directory. We probably won't use those strips unless all pilots have installed OZx Australia. You can download the OZx package for free. It is large, because it includes sceneries for all of Australia as well as for parts of the Pacific Northwest. (Mainly Australia.) In the OZx Downloads section, look for OZx scenery. Here http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?/files/category/1-ozx-scenery/ By scrolling down, you can find the relevant sceneries. You want: "OZx AU Complete + OZx NA Complete + OZx Libraries". Dated 19 Apr 2012. 2GB. …and… "OZx AU 3.4 upgrade". Dated 23 Oct 2013. 366MB. The main download is 2GB and includes updates through v3.3. You want to add the 3.4 update, which is easy to install. The OZx sceneries are excellent … many are of high payware quality. All add real character that is so missing in the defaults. So if you are interested in smaller airfields (and some regional airfields) in Australia , this is a worthwhile package. For Tasmania, the airports included are: YKII King Island YSMI Smithson YWYY Wynyard (including nearby Burnie and its port) YGTO George Town YSTH St Helens YLPR Lake Pedder You can download the freeware FTX Launceston YMLT (123 MB) from Orbx here: http://fullterrain.com/freeware.html In addition, you can add a freeware version of Hobart International Airport YMHB that is crafted to work well with FTX Tasmania. The authors are Matthew and Sean Devenish and v2.1 is available at the AVSIM library. Look for hobartairportv2.1.zip. (May 10, 2010) Alternatively, it is at the FlightSim.com library. Look for hobartairportv21.zip. (May 15, 2010) And Uwe Schweitzer has done up a nice FTX-Compatible Devonport YDPO. This is at FligthSim.com. Look for ydpo.zip. That would give us nine airfields with enhanced scenery. We can add one or two others that are default to get complete coverage. Of course, no need to add to the eye candy: default airports work very well indeed. Hope this helps. --M --Mike MacKuen
June 19, 201411 yr Author Not sure what sorts of Tasmanian flying Ron has in mind. The sort where you start off on the ground, rev your engine and take off. Then at some point go down and get back on the ground. Continue doing that until time runs out or boredom sets in. That sort of Tasmanian flying. Hope that helps. On a more serious note A FLIGHT PLAN of sorts. Feel free to modify....please! The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
June 20, 201411 yr Haven't had time to dig too deep into the OZx stuff yet, so I have to ask a stupid question - is the AU Complete scenery additive to and compatible with the FTX AU payware package, or is it an alternative? I just purchased the FTX AU package on sale and would hate to have to rip it all back out again. Craig Taylor
June 20, 201411 yr Craig, The OZx scenery package is a complement to the FTX AU scenery. It was designed for and works supremely well with the FTX AU package. --Mike MacKuen
June 20, 201411 yr Mike, Thanks. I'm downloading them now. I'm happy about getting the extra airports for Tasmania. Craig Taylor
June 21, 201411 yr If you like, you can download an approximation of Ron's Tasmania Flight Plan in FSX and Plan-G formats here. --Mike MacKuen
June 21, 201411 yr So what's our recommended aircraft for this week? As it's Ron's route, does he get to nominate?
June 21, 201411 yr Last week on teamspeak, Ron said something about us all using a PMDG type as long as it started with a "7". Also... he mentioned us all using ASN so we all could share the experience of having the most realistically depicted weather.
