June 18, 201411 yr Would like to have a good, fairly fast, single engine, non-turbocharged, fixed gear payware GA plane to play around on short flights. Thinking of the standard, modern Skylane. I do not like the G1000 versions. Would like KNS (?) type gear, with a possible upgrade to the newer versions I am now seeing in the forum. Looked at Carenado, but most are fairly old models with older radio and nav gear. Any suggestions ? Dave Hinson David Hinson

June 18, 201411 yr Baytower RV7 fits that pretty well.... Superb plane. I guess our definition of fast isn't the same - skylanes aren't very fast - of course I work ATC in duluth where Cirrus is made so I'm used to them. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
June 18, 201411 yr Check out the Lancair by either Real Air or Orbx. The Orbx version is retractable gear, though. June 19, 201411 yr A touch slower than the Skylane, Eaglesoft just u/g their Liberty to handle the new Flight1 GTN gear. That would meet the fixed gear, modern avionics, and be within 10 knots cruise or so of the F/G C182. I recommend you look very seriously at the two A2A GA offerings. I like the BayTower RV7 but it may be a little too fast for your specs. I totally dislike the "only pilot is a young girl" with a Shi# Eating grin from ear to ear. Ray When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .
June 19, 201411 yr Author Thanks for the quick replies, but I am looking specifically for the Skylane. Have always liked that aircraft, and one day I hope to be able to maybe lease one or join a flying club with one. David Hinson
June 19, 201411 yr Only option I know is the C182Q from Carenado. You can update the air file and change out all the instruments and avionics. One of the very few that will allow this. You can even add a GTN 750. Now that is as close as you can get to your specs. Regards, Ray When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .
June 19, 201411 yr I have the Carenado C182Q with the RXP GNS 530 and a Bernt Stolle FDE. Yeah, it's dated but it flies pretty true to the real thing. Right now, you're going to be hard pressed to find anything closer. You could also update the gauges with RXP gauges if you chose. Alternately, there's the 337 which flies a lot like a heavier Skylane. Alternately, a little bird told me that Bernt is making a new FDE for the C210. I am looking forward to that! I have been waiting for that new FDE since the day I wrote the review. I really struggled with the grading of that one. There was enough other good stuff at the time to give it the edge. It would be a really nice bird with the Bernt Fix. Ray When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .
June 19, 201411 yr There's a 206 from carenado.... but I think it's turbocharged.... but it does have a six pack.... But yeah only their older 182 is the true skylane. I also enjoy the F1 T182 G1000 but I noted your dislike for glass. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
June 19, 201411 yr Flight 1 T182 is the best of the bunch but unfortunately turbocharged and G1000 equipped. Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
June 19, 201411 yr Author Thanks, guys. Looks like the Q it is. Would love to be able to fly one of these things. I have flown a lot of Pipers, but never this one. It's on my "bucket list" David Hinson
