PMDG 777-300ER Video Preview (Beta)

Do the wings flex?

If that's not flex in the videos, then I don't know what is. PMDG has done wing flex since the 2004 747 fyi, so don't worry, it'll be there.

Thanks Luke, awesome video!

Hey Luke, have you tried online streaming?

You basically setup your game capture, sound and voice capture and you're set go. You may wish to contemplate streaming too!

I have started streaming on twitch.tv and the fps is alright -Having done essential tweaks to the streaming agent OBS. I've also started streaming some tutorials with commentary to the guys at my VA and I think it's a great platform to post videos, especially when you don't have the time nor the enthausiasm to edit videos before posting.

Here's my question (100% honest - not trying to be rude at all) about streams though:

Who actually watches that kind of stuff?  I might be looking at it the wrong way, because a lot of my friends seemingly stream flights simply to stream flights, but why would someone watch someone else fly, when they could fly themselves?

...is it the feeling that they get to "hang out" with you?

...is it that the person is educating people about the operation during the stream?

I just don't get the draw.

I could totally see doing a live stream of a night of ATC to educate the simmer (or even RW pilot) group about that, but I feel like I'm completely missing the point of live streams for flying.  Again, perhaps because most of the people I know (personally) who stream simply stream their flight with no extra draw...

You can also ask "why people watch TV". I also wonder why people watch eleven guys running on a green field for a goal. The answer is pretty simple. Entertainment.

Some people want to watch soccer or football, series, movies and so on and others like to see someone fly.

But for this point i guess they would like to see more of the 300ER because everybody of us is impatiently waiting for the release.

Both and more. You just chill while watching them fly, ask questions, fool around. But I mostly watch streams on my second monitor while I work. Strangely, I have no problem working like that.

I know there's a lot of money in aviation because I put it there.

I wouldn't exactly call that a fair comparison.  There's a fair amount of action in a game of football.  Sitting around watching some dude fly for hours at cruise is akin to watching paint dry.  There's a reason the former gets television coverage, and the latter doesn't.

Fair point.  That makes some sense.

I did the same thing the other day, actually.  A guy I know posted something up on facebook about streaming his flight, so I had it running in the background while I prepped my own.  I didn't watch it at all though.  I was just listening to the open-mic commentary.

I probably avoid them because I'm sure I'd see some type of simism pop up, and we all know how much I love those.

Yes and a lot of people find a stream of a 14 hours flight great. It's just a matter of taste. For us it might be boring but for some it's a big thing, like football. :)

scandinavian13,

I understand where you're coming from and I personally think that streaming game play could be superficial and filled up with superfluous speech. I wouldn't be watching a Live stream in most cases, but for what it is worth here are a few of points:

First, I for one was asked to stream short hops during VATSIM events, as VA members wanted to see how a flight is conducted from a private pilot's perspective.

Second, those streams are actually saved on the channel so anyone could watch them afterwards same as they do on Youtube at their convenience.

Third, you're given the options to share those streams to a Youtube channel, or share them via social media networks.

Having said the above, for me (and that's my personal opinion) streaming is considered to be the platform I use to record stuff without having to stage the show and lay the ground each time I want to record.

As I said earlier, due to the lack of time and enthusiasm being being a full time working professional, a father and responsible for a family, I found that streaming is an all-in-one solution for me. I know real world commercial pilots who stream FSX stuff to demonstrate procedures.

EDIT: Also many simmers out there would like to see somehow accurate flows and procedures, with the majority of youtube videos just showing a takeoff and a landing, with mostly incorrect information, and they can't or don't want to buy online training just to be able to play a game. I am 100% against payware online FSX training as in my very personal opinion I find it an underhanded way of getting your money for nothing real.

In conclusion, if Luke's problem was the FPS due to fraps being an fps destroyer, I just wanted to propose an alternative.

Cheers :-)

Funny enough I watched the video and I was thinking almost the same thing. I was saying to myself "why am I watching this". Not to mention you can open the 77L and see the same cockpit.

The videos about the WX are good, something new and new information. Looking at a 77W compared to a 77L does nothing for me as they are the same.

Nothing against the video, just doesn't put the wind in my sails.
