Scenery Cfg Not Valid

Featured Replies

Hi

I started fsx config editor up this morning to untick sceneries etc for my flight and I noticed that there was no scenery in there. I booted up fsx and got this message http://i.imgur.com/dEtPkZn.png

Is there any fix for this ?

My scenery.cfg file is located in C drive and a FSX folder that I made ?

Thanks

The scenery.cfg must reside in a hidden folder at C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX. It cannot be moved as well as the fsx.cfg cannot be moved. Simply move it back to that folder.

As Jim has suggested it has  to be  what he  has written down, you cant  just make up folders and put  them in the wrong  section just wont work

Re -      C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX,  I do not have FSX " scenery.cfg " in this folder,  it is located in  C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX.   It's worth making a shortcut to this location, saves time.

That's NOT the working version of the scenery.cfg (and it must not be deleted or removed from this folder). The working version is in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX. It doesn't matter where you have FSX installed. The scenery.cfg must reside in the ProgramData folder.

This whole story going the wrong way.

The scenery.cfg in C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX is the original scenery.cfg,it does nothing.it's the same as in the root of FSX.

The scenery.cfg in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX is the one that FSX use.

Could the mystery be that the OP, (like me), is running Windows XP and C:\Program Data folder

is non-existant?

For Windows XP I believe the scenery.cfg is located in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX. Don't think I ever had XP and FSX as I got Vista as soon as FSX was released but that's what it says on the Internet as to the location of the working scenery.cfg.

The OP is having a hard time copying and pasting his error messages as he must have Internet Explorer 11 installed and he has to change the BBCode Mode (button in upper left corner of each post) in order to paste something into a post.

Apologies to all, scenery.cfg is in C:\Program Data, I need an optician !!    FSX / FS9 runs on a "dedicated" Win 7 desktop, however I installed a default only on a Win 8.1 laptop and Program Data folder doesn't seem to exist, even with a search.  I only mention this as an observation, it doesn't affect anything and FSX is used very rarely on the laptop so no fix is needed.

on a Win 8.1 laptop and Program Data folder doesn't seem to exist,

It's there.

You have to go to Control Panel>Folder Options and add a check to "Show hidden files, folder and drives".

While you are there remove the check from "Hide extensions for known file types".
