August 24, 201411 yr A while ago, I posted here regarding the issue with appearing and disappearing cloud shadows. It seemed like I was not the only one experiencing this. Instantly dismissing it as a bug with LM, I thought Id wait for a patch for a fix. But, after I thought Id try delete the contents of my shaders folder..... bingo!! Cloud shadows are back and here to stay. Did more than several test flights to confirm and all is good. So in any doubt, it never hurts to delete the contents of your shaders folder

August 24, 201411 yr Moderator ANY time you make a graphics settings change or driver change, you will get the best results by deleting the shader file and letting it rebuild. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
August 25, 201411 yr I've deleted the shader cache several times while changing settings without result I'm afraid. Still problem with the cloud shadows. But a fix is coming so it will be good :-)
August 25, 201411 yr I've deleted the shader cache several times while changing settings without result I'm afraid. Still problem with the cloud shadows. But a fix is coming so it will be good :-) Er... a fix is coming for the ground shadow problem, I haven't heard about a fix for the disappearing cloud shadows yet...? There are TWO different problems with the shadows!
August 25, 201411 yr Beau wrote this on the LM forum: "We will wait a little bit longer to give users some more time to find show-stopping issues and likely do a hot-fix. At the very least we can post updated shader files that can fix most of the shadow issues. To fix them completely, I had to make a minor code change, which would require an updated dll". I hope this will fix the cloud shadows aswell :-)
August 25, 201411 yr Author I think it is related to the spinng swing door effect from the clouds.. It is so bad in this version.. Only way to not notice it is to either not pan or pan very slowly
August 25, 201411 yr It's been my (limited) experience that the disappearing cloud shadows generally only happen early and late in the day when you're looking in the opposite direction of the sun. If you're flying directly away from the sun, there won't be many shadows in view, but as you rotate your view, shadows will pop up. The shadows do not spin as far as I can see, so I don't think it's related to the cloud spinning. I could be wrong here. Also, on my last flight testing the shadows, I went looking for spinning clouds. In a sky full of clouds, I could only see one cloud that would spin and they all looked like the same kind of cumulus clouds. Stratus seem to be worse about this. This is not something that will happen with every cloud in the sky, and as long as you're flying closer to the middle of the day, disappearing shadows won't be that likely. I turned off terrain shadows, deleted my shader cache, and restarted the sim with the new options and no cache. The only effect was that stuttering was horrendous. While I was watching the replay of my pattern and landing (from the tower), when my aircraft was in sun there was no stuttering. When it was in shadow, the stutters were bouncing the background all over the place. The plane went in and out of shadow several times during the replay. Basically, if you're testing for disappearing shadows, you'll have to fly under conditions that make shadows disappear... right after dawn turns into day and right before day turns into dusk. Hook It happens all times of day. But I guess it would never be the same for any particular user. This video was deliberatly shot at midday... a week or so ago when I reported the issue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeWSZjKGBAg But since deleting my shader folder, all seems well
August 25, 201411 yr Yeah, I've too noticed that it happens more frequently when you fly away from the sun.
August 25, 201411 yr My last flight I was flying toward the sun. Some time between 10:15 and 10:30 AM the number of disappearing shadows behind and beside me dropped off dramatically. I still got one or two occasionally, but not every shadow any more. I also had a couple that appeared or disappeared as I tilted my head up or down but not side to side, and those were to my front in the direction of the sun. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! August 25, 201411 yr I don think that it can be fixed as it is like i assumed the other day. I just mad e small time laps video. As you guys can see the clouds not only moving they spin even without panning and the shadows too as the light source is moving as well. So my guess is it is a lighting problem based on cloud spinning. See for yourself http://youtu.be/dBcc1ahtZ54 Greetz MJ My youtube blog________________________Prepar3D v2.5/v3
August 25, 201411 yr Author Your video shows it quite clearly and I do think it is related to the spinning clouds. They wasnt so bad in 2.2, so the shadows respectivly were also the same... but 2.3, the spinners are so bad, its completly distracting from the flight. Here is a vid too of how bad it is... I do hope LM fix this somehow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=biqxr1PZ2fo

This issue (along with stutters and AA) is why I haven't reinvested in P3D yet. Your vid shows what I saw in version 2.0.
